re-entering the world of work

so, I've just heard that the second interview I went for yesterday was successful, so I have a job basically......but....

I need this job far more than I want it, money is unbelievably tight on the dole, but major outgoings are covered bu insurannce and stuf..

the money for the job isn't fantastic and the commute will be about an hour and a half each way, but the company seems like a good one, very large with offices all over the world (I'm not going to name them right now for obvious google reasons) also though to make up the package there's a minimum 7.5% bonus, BUPA, a contributory pension (can someone explain this for me I have no knowledge of pensions whatsoever) and 25 days holiday.

I guess I'm just writing this to sort things out in my head, but please convince me to take it, I think.

I'm in a similar situation at the moment. The best way to do it is to promise yourself a little present on the arrival of your first pay. Something you'd really like. Not neccesarily pricey, just nice. I always tried to follow Agent Coopers advice to Harry Trueman - "every day, once a day, treat yourself". Whilst on the dole thats a bit hard - so take this new job as a chance to start. It might be as simple as a nice sandwich, a new CD, a small bottle of your favourite spirit. But treat yourself. Your life has changed, and if you just carry on as before but with a job that takes all your time and energy, you'll get miserable.

take it. it depends on your definition of "not fantastic", for the money side (but i'm at least assuming that you'll be better off than on the dole?)

90 minute commute, i used to do this from finchley to m4 corridor (and its not that much less even now). this is excellent for books (3 hours reading a day!)

its not the greatest time to be out of work at the moment, and you dont say that the job itself looks bad, so why not?

Baiscally if its contributary pension then you are paying for it so it needs to be as good as any opt-out you might get (obv. company may put in x amount, work out if they would do this externally.) Basically if you don't think you'll be working there for more'n'two years its not worth it. If you don't think you will live past fifty its not worth it either.

But congratulations!

Good advice above. Take it if you need the money, but keep looking around for something you'd prefer.
