i'm always reminded of danny baker then a dj at 'one fm'
pulling out the cartridge of
mark radcliffe's trailer for (christ)
'increase the peace'
as it was playing and throwing it across
the studio into a wall saying
'what's the *matter* with this station ?' -
it went 'what do plastic poppies really *mean*
to the kids in the 90's' or something
danny b got a bollocking for it.
he was right, they were wrong. arseholes.

sorry, where was i - yeah is there a gay side ?

dunno. would it bother you if there was? ;)

plastic poppies really are naff tho...obviously the symbolism is all-powerful but i have trouble with the idea of donning such a cheap, frivalous item in order to SHOW that i remember and honour those who died for our countries...do i really need to SHOW other people i'm doing that anyway? well the immense guilt of making a comment like this is already setting in so i'd better grab one quick i guess...

ignoring the 'gay' issue, how should one wear a poppy if not dressed in a suit?

well i've put mine in using the *other* side of my
'i want candy' badge. dead hard it was too. on the left side.

Naff student activism alert: there are banners up on campus saying 'Fast To Remember! One Day Fast! Join Us For Pre-Fast Dinner!' which makes me want to lock them in their rooms and make them do some actual STUDY, frankly.

I like how the centres are black now instead of green, looks less frou-frou (though hey, praps green centre now=gay poppy?). Yesterday I got my hand caught on my poppy pin and ripped a chunk out of my palm. They need to start selling safety poppies.

Poppy (poppy), Friday, 1 November 2002 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I know, I could make my own safety poppy with a safety pin. I like this idea:

poppy day with flair: Armistice is a big deal in some schools. At ours we all had to wear poppies. We spruced up the traditional red poppies with Smash Hits cut outs, paisley, tartan and check material etc etc and got the sixth formers to flog them from the tuck shop. The headmaster was livid, but impotent as poppy day collection had quadrupled from previous years

That's hilarious, I didn't realise my posting name is also Poppy and that I therefore now sound totally poppy-obsessed. I think I'd better shut up now.

I'm totally amazed at this. Who the hell wears poppies anyway??? Any side would be a gay side.

it's like those yellow ribbons you tie round the old oak tree or whatever the fuck you do in america. it's a war memorial thing.

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Friday, 1 November 2002 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no tying a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree is what you do when someone gets out of jail but you still wanna get back with them. but y'know.

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Friday, 1 November 2002 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

actually wearing a poppy means "i am a narcotics pusher". wearing a poppy on the left side means "i am a homosexual narcotics pusher".

Ohhh!! Two doses of the forbidden in one......

I like how the centres are black now instead of green

i thought the centres were always black? with 'the Haig Foundation' or something on them if you looked closely. Haig = useless WW1 army chief IIRC
