Worth noting that 7 is prime, 8 = 2^3, 9 = 3^2

valorous wokelord (silby), Saturday, 7 April 2018 06:28 (seven years ago)

9 is the only one not in the Steps song "5, 6, 7, 8" which was somehow played in the bar last night much to my disgust.

I'm Finn thanks, don't mention it (fionnland), Saturday, 7 April 2018 07:03 (seven years ago)

8 for its association with fortune in the world of numerological bullshit

Droni Mitchell (Ross), Saturday, 7 April 2018 08:02 (seven years ago)

7 = (3 x 2 ) + 1
8 = 2 x (3 + 1)
9 = 3 x (2 + 1)

brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 7 April 2018 15:45 (seven years ago)

growing up, 8 was my favorite number. the reason was because the other popular favorite numbers were 7 and 1, and 7 + 1 = 8.

8 is the only one you can draw starting at any point...it gets my vote

Scape: Goat-fired like a dog! (Myonga Vön Bontee), Saturday, 7 April 2018 15:55 (seven years ago)

These are very entry-level numbers. There are much huger numbers. Even people who aren't into numbers know these ones.

jmm, Saturday, 7 April 2018 16:20 (seven years ago)

This is true but people forget how classic they were at the time. Everybody makes a big deal out of numbers like 68, 32, 35, but they wouldn't even be in the conversation without these.

DACA Flocka Flame (Hadrian VIII), Saturday, 7 April 2018 17:11 (seven years ago)

8 is the pretty one

adam the (abanana), Saturday, 7 April 2018 17:17 (seven years ago)

7 + 8 = 15
15 + 9 = 24

Karl Malone, Saturday, 7 April 2018 17:56 (seven years ago)

7 x 9 = 63 → 6 + 3 = 9

8 x 9 = 72 → 7 + 2 = 9

7 x 8 x 9 = 504 → 5 + 0 + 4 = 9

the late great, Saturday, 7 April 2018 18:25 (seven years ago)

78 x 9 = 702 → 7 + 0 + 2 = 9

(7 + 8) x 9 = 135 → 1 + 3 + 5 = 9

my favorite property of multiples of 9

the late great, Saturday, 7 April 2018 18:28 (seven years ago)

7 is the 4th Lucas number. 8 is the 6th Fibonacci number. 9 is the 4th Motzkin number.

multiples of nine always make numbers that individually add up to nine or multiples of nine. Nine is fucking magic. I once put £5 each way on a 50/1 shot called She's A Dreamer that romped home, just because it was a number 9. My habit of backing number 9's did turn into a game of diminishing returns after that early success though!

This thread makes me feel terrible.

Jeff, Saturday, 7 April 2018 21:36 (seven years ago)

I’ll be honest, I voted nine because it’s the biggest and I’m sorta done with primes

El Tomboto, Sunday, 8 April 2018 00:30 (seven years ago)
