With this ruling Twin Galaxies can no longer recognize Billy Mitchell as the 1st million point “Donkey Kong” record holder. According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder.

i got into a ridiculous drunken disagreement about this very issue the other night, because someone was talking about it as if it proved that billy mitchell was "bad" at donkey kong. i mentioned that cheating or not, billy mitchell can definitely wail the fuck out of donkey kong whatever he wants, clearly he is very good at the game, it's just that he was tempted to cheat to become #1. which is all incredibly lame and hilarious, of course, but it doesn't mean he's not "good". but no, countered the friend, billy mitchell is actually bad at donkey kong, because he had to cheat. yes, he had to cheat in order to go from a top 5 all-time score to the #1, but that doesn't mean that - but no, but yes, drink drink drink glug glug.

I guess this is redemption for the filmmakers, who I thought were a bit undeservedly harsh on Mitchell. the movie felt like a Michael Moore-style hitjob, lots of implications of shady behavior and "just asking questions" but not really any actual evidence that he cheated.

I met Billy before the movie and I agree they had a storyline they wanted re: Wiebe the good guy vs. Billy the bad guy but let me tell you, he is absolutely that much of a rude, arrogant jackass as portrayed in the movie
