This is a great read, although it seems odd to me that they don't name FinFisher in the piece, but maybe that's the sort of trivia only I care about. Also, why are people still on Facebook.

Seems slightly odd to me that they don’t mention Hasbara, given they have probably been at it longer than anyone else.

I think “Hasbara” as I understand the term is a lot broader than the specifically digital disinfo / misinfo campaigns the article is focused on. It’s already getting crowded enough by the time it leans into “botnet” territory (pedantry: FinFisher and its ilk are not botnets)

Yep, the term properly used is broader but a large part of it has been pioneering that kind of targeted online troll army / citizen response (depending on your perspective) and it’d be interesting to contextualise some of the attempts by other governments to replicate it in light of its perceived successes and failures, but that might be another article.
