This was so much better than it had any right to be that it deserves its own thread

Yeah that conchords guy really stepped up

Οὖτις, Sunday, 26 August 2018 16:32 (seven years ago)

yeah i don't know what problem people had with it. it was a fine entry; not as good as the preceeding movie but close. shame the muppets seem to be in the woods again.

akm, Sunday, 26 August 2018 18:09 (seven years ago)

Miss Piggy's song "Something So Right" is the best thing she ever did.

everything, Sunday, 26 August 2018 19:09 (seven years ago)

Though it's worth noting that the original character of Miss Piggy has evolved quite a bit since Frank Oz used to play her, including that she was completely unlistenable as a singer and generally prohibited from singing at all costs.

I hated the first one - so treacly - and this was kind of anarchic and dumb which felt much more in the spirit of things.

I still hate Kermit's voice but I guess that's the guy that got fired?

The newish TV show looked AWFUL

Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 26 August 2018 20:23 (seven years ago)

I've heard enough good things at this point that I guess I'll check it out eventually. It's just that I'm such a Henson megastan that I can't get with any of the stuff made since his death. It's all missing some essential spark. The Segel movie felt like a Muppet-centric version of RP1.

Christmas carol?

I liked the Segel one fine but this is def better

Οὖτις, Sunday, 26 August 2018 22:17 (seven years ago)

Previous film was a film about the Muppets, this was a Muppets film (and was therefore tons better).

JimD, Monday, 27 August 2018 00:06 (seven years ago)

No, one of the bad things about The Muppets is that it was so much about Segal, Amy Adams and Walter, rather than the Muppets. No other muppet movie has non-muppets as the focus of the film.

It's unfortunate that Muppets Most Wanted is not as highly regarded because it's def superior. The self-deprecating opening song was a huge mistake imo. It's a fun song but it's an appalling way to start a film - by re-stating many times that the film won't be good.

Otm @ this being the real problem

"No other muppet movie has non-muppets as the focus of the film."

Apart from Muppet Christmas Carol, which is kind of a big omission.

Matt DC, Saturday, 4 January 2020 13:08 (five years ago)

particularly since it’s the best muppet movie

It's like saying your kids are better than my kids. Even if true, it's still gauche.

I somehow never mentioned OTT that I loved this movie, until now. I loved this movie.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Saturday, 4 January 2020 16:35 (five years ago)

think we may have had a lot of love for it in the thread for the first movie

Banáná hÉireann (darraghmac), Saturday, 4 January 2020 16:48 (five years ago)

I liked it so much I misremembered this being the one with Miss Poogy, which as it turns out was the only thing I really liked about the 2011 one.

temporarily embarrassed thousandaire (Eric H.), Saturday, 4 January 2020 16:48 (five years ago)

‘I’ll get you what you want (cockatoo in malibu)’ is a legit banger

hot nuts (small) (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 4 January 2020 17:05 (five years ago)

this movie is so good that even ricky gervais delivers a respectable performance

favourite line is probably danny trejo boasting about being an triple threat - a singer, dancer, and murderer’

hot nuts (small) (bizarro gazzara), Saturday, 4 January 2020 17:08 (five years ago)

ricky gervais is fine fyi
