"I've got so much love to give, I've got soooooooooo much love to giiiiiive, I've got so much looooooooove to giiiiiiiiiiiiiive, repeat 300 TIMES!"

Brilliant. I'm seeing them on the 30th of this month hopefully, can't wait.

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry but I really hate that song, it hurts my brain, I tried to see the attraction but it hurts. Help me to understand..

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It's got so much love to give!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Really? Coz I don't think they get that point across...

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Hehe, I don't know, lets use this thread to celebrate diversity!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

(for that second I was Ned)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

i think its nice but over-rated...maybe if it was just 2 minutes long...but then i'm not out on the thronged floor having just done a pill and i know tracks like this can make much more sense in those situations. Bangalter has this odd and risky notion that just using the most simple loop and exploiting the idea of monotony for all its worth is all-powerful on the dancefloor...i remember him quoted as describing a great dance track and saying it would just 'be a bassdrum for 1 or 2 minutes then bring in a hi hat - everyone would dance!' sounds like 'Phoenix'! but he's pushing it as far as it can go with 'so much love to give' - and as much as i loved Stardust and 'Around The World' and even 'One More Time' for a bit i think he could add more to the vocal element and i would prefer that tho i know others wouldnt...if 'Music SOunds Better With You' had an extra verse or whatever couldve been even better

blueski, Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to confess last time I heard this I was on a dancefloor, with a beautiful woman, and I had just done a pill.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah ha, it all becomes clear, many a dud track (not that I'm saying this one is, of course, just that I don't get it) sound like genius when your out of yer tights.

Yay diversity!

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to confess last time I heard this I was on a dancefloor, with a beautiful woman, and I had just done a pill.

Anadin Ultra will do that to you, though.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Bangalter is OTM.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Falcon has this notion too obviously, exhibit a ladies and gentlemen, a remix of la mouche which "rocks".

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

there's really nothing TO get with 'so much love to give' tho - if you like modern super-filter house-disco then i think you'll appreciate it...its totally a DJ/dancefloor track tho - something to drop in a set as a real punctuation mark (ala Hatiras 'Spaced Invader') - it doesnt really make sense to hear anywhere outside of a packed dancefloor, does it?

blueski, Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i've never heard it played out. i think it's possibly a piss-take. when i hear it in my bedroom i turn it up and can feel EXACTLY what it'd be like at 2am on the dancefloor. thus, it works outside of that situation.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm saying 'smltg' is a real component track and its dependent on the tracks that surround it in a DJ set to lend it its real gravitas...it gains its strength in this way rather than standing up on its own - mind you its a great track to open a set with...i realise my perception of dance music and clubbing is probably quite different from the norm often because i've never been a regular clubber and certainly not a regular piller!

blueski, Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I just have this sneaking suspicion somebody is larfing all the way to the bank...

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Haven't heard it enough to say for sure, but I'd hate to say that about any song I liked. It was certainly unholy at Jon Carter on Saturday, as in 5 minutes of singing to it before realising what it was type good.

Do you think Spaced Invader is a dj/dancefloor track? I'm quite a fan of it off the dancefloor or on. As I say I'm not sure I believe in a track working in a club and not working outside of it. I tend to be in the club mentality when I listen to stuff anyway. (but I wouldn't worry about being a regular clubber or piller, the latter does nothing for my perception, well, beyond increasing my enthusiasm the odd time)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

i can feel that way when i hear it as well so perhaps i'm wrong to assert its 'time and place' like that...but then it sounds like you're imagining being on the dancefloor at 2am when you're listening to it so my judgement kinda makes sense in that way!

blueski, Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to confess last time I heard this I was on a dancefloor, with a beautiful woman, and I had just done a pill.

i now have a picture of ronan as that guy from the fast show, whats he called? swiss tony is it?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet I'll like it when I hear it properly, Plinky where did you hear it? Radio? I wish radio stations here would play it. It has such a good message for the kids. Noone answered my thread about how good songs reclaim bad titles.

I try and imagine I'm on the dancefloor when I listen to any dance song.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Gah no, I wish I hadn't said that now, it's not a familiar situation for me to be in let me tell you. Well the last part is too familiar but the rest, fucking annually if I'm lucky.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it was Radio 1 but I get what you're all saying about context. The context I heard it in - I was decorating my new house trying to find something on the radio that would help break the monotony of painting and wallpaper stripping, it really didn't help. Had to get off the ladders and switch it off and there's not many tracks that do that to me.

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i dunno, just seems these particular tracks are designed with a specific intention in mind - to make people dance and dance in a specific environment tho the latter is open to argument - in a DJ set that is a paragraph they are exclamation marks!...and as i say when i hear these tracks all i can think about is two thousand people dancing in a club or on a beach hence my feeling they dont work in another context - maybe thats obvious

blueski, Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't you close your eyes and think "wow"? I dunno, without sounding too peter pan about it all that's what I tend to do, I often imagine the library in college or o'connell street just exploding into life.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan, your life is a musical.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i find i listen to a lot of dance tracks and picture something other than dancing/dancefloors tho. esp. with Underworld - with 'Two Months Off' or with Way Out West's 'Domination' i have some montage in my head running of high-speed trains and other transport, ocean waves, sunsets, all that cliched crap - or like that video for Royksopp's 'Remind Me' - often i'll think about the video when hearing any song of course, or of them playing it live on stage

blueski, Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't neccessarily picture a dancefloor, it's more the feeling. turn it up and stick your head right next to the speaker and feel those synapses start to twitch.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Normally I can do that (I maintain I never 'got' dance music until I'd taken illegal substances and gone out dancing to it) but this one I just don't get. Maybe my imagination is crap and I'll be able to understand it once I've hear it in context, but right now it irritates me deeply.

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

in spite of what i've written on this thread i don't think the record in question is *that* great.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

(for that second I was Ned)

Apologies if you suffer an allergic reaction.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah I don't think it's amazing, but I do think it's a very good record.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

if any ILXers fancy a trip to Brussels on night of Sat 23rd Nov, Bangalter & DJ Falcon are doing a set together with Cassius as part of this big techno/house/jungle event. DJ Hell, Felix da Housecat and Miss Kittin among others are also doing long sets at same event.

Jeff W, Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

thats actually quite tempting (esp as looks like i may not be able to make saturday now)

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff W, Thursday, 7 November 2002 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, Thomas didn't show at The-End last night but Dexter did, he was amazing, but he's playing again - TODAY! FOR FREE! It's a 'chill out' session at The Social, Arlington Square, Islington, N1 this afternoon. Dexter will be joined by Jonno (founder of Jockey Slut). Starts at 4, goes on till Late.

nick.K (nick.K), Sunday, 10 November 2002 13:34 (twenty-three years ago)

.......a sunday session of pop, soul an' owt else they fancy. There's candles on the table and everything! Nice. Email me if you're going.

nick.K (nick.K), Sunday, 10 November 2002 13:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I just realised I know the first single really well also, and it's great, that bassline is just fantastic.
