Food search: Sri Lankan fish ball things.

Okay - I don't know what they're called or where to get any.

The parents of a girl I lived with at university, Gnanika, were from Sri Lanka. Her mum liked to mother all of us and would always bring stacks and stacks of food whenever she came to visit, currys, big pots of nooddles and these fish ball things. I asked Gnan a million times what they were called and she wasn't too clear on it either.

In apperance they look a bit like a scotch egg, but underneath the breadcrums is a mixture of some kind of fish and some unidentified spices. They're gorgeous. There have to be some in London somewhere. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

Yes. Yum. My brother used to make them. And I think he has a recipe. But he's in Venice. Someone else will no doubt answer this question, but if not I'll quiz him when he returns.

Yes, they are indeed gorgeous. Round friend Nish's parents last week (also Lankan) and had ridiculous slap up fifteen curry meal. K-num to the max. I have a great recipe for a Sri Lankan Chicken curry (with potatoes natch because it comes from Lindsay Bareham's peerless "In PRaise Of The Potato") but non for these Scotch Eggs.

I have a vague memory of them being called something like frikadells or something (I had some with Lamprais which is curry and rice wrapped in a banana leaf).
