"oppic" is short for nothing.

I think it began life as a headline word in Variety and was never meant to be elegant, just short and visually pithy.

The thing I've never understood is why, regardless of pronunciation preference, everyone treats the 't' in 'bioptic' as if it's silent.

I'm trying to think of any bio-pics i like. The recent Emily D one was exceptional. The two 90's Van gogh ones were memorable. Patten was a very enjoyable but probably mediocre movie carried by the outstanding George C Scott. nah they are mostly absolute rinse I think.

What distinguishes a bye-AH-pick from a film based on a true story? Like is Shattered Glass a Stephen Glass biopic? Because that one is fantastic. And is it still a biopic if it's almost certainly 50%+ bullshit? Because Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is likewise fantastic.

well I think a biopic should technically show a person's entire life story (or most of it at least)

rather than just dramatising one particular incident from their life
