I wanted a thread for Shirley Chisholm, as the only other one had a shitty title.

Promoted by the Rev Dr Barber posting today:

Remember Shirley Chisholm. She said she did not want to be remembered as the first black congresswoman, but as one who had guts. I pray the new members will have guts in 2019. Chisholm once said Congress was run by 15 old men, 90% from the South. She called it the oligarchy. pic.twitter.com/G4HBLdnxxv

Male or female I hope the new members will have guts to break up the clicks, stop reacting to Trump & his enablers, & go on the offensive for love, justice, truth, voting rights, living wages, healthcare, the environment a challenge to extreme militarism.

Shirley Chisholm rarely managed to get noticed by the media during all the turmoil and upheaval of the 1960s and early 1970s. She was not just great, but consistently great, which is a helluva feat at any time, but especially hard for anyone in politics.

one year passes...

The third episode of Mrs. America is mostly devoted to her and the '72 convention.
