opinions required on possible business idea

i realise hardly any of you have kids, but this is something you could still offer opinions on ( ask friends or think of siblings w. children ).
i am so bored with the pathetic range of babies clothing here, all the same stuff and cutsie-pie pale teddy bear patterns or over-priced rack-upon-rack of the same coloured t-shirts and dungarees etc.
i have it in mind to make my own things, stuff with a bit of personality - how does a pair of paisley trousers grab you? hahaha
you get what i mean though ( i hope ). things with style, bright things, outfits that dont make you think " awwww how fucking sweet-nauseatingly so"
i have been to local fabric outlets, but found little there to suit what i want, and am considering not only designing the range but also the fabrics.
any ideas / comments?
i also need a name for it. something 'jazzy' and upmarket.

Call it "Fremme Neppa Venette"

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham is OTM. Then in a massive publicity grabbing incident, you could sue Missy for copyright infringement. Think of the headlines...

i do have a designer mate who can assist with patterning etc, and also have another designer mate who can assist with marketing design.
i have done the whole 'start your own business from nothing' thing before so i know how to do it. ( and i can sew )
i just need some input on how feasible it sounds.
yep wallowing in space here i know, bear in mind i have a pretty good idea of how to kick-start this, what i am after is feedback / yes-no-its a crap idea........

donna (donna), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

it is also something i can do from home, therefore not requiring the outlay of leasing a place and other overheads. ( initially ).
i am quite serious about this, aside from the frustration of finding no decent clothing, it would create an income hopefully.
i am in no position to re-establish my previous life, so this is an alternative.
have to go now, light of my life is awake. :-)

Make a little shirt with Spogebob Squarepants holding a knife on it.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounds like a great idea. Not just clothes but everything to do with babies - pushchairs/buggies, 'changing bags', high chairs - is very conservative. As you say teddy bears everywhere and the buggies and things usually have a nasty navy blue check trim. I think it's one of those markets where the manufacturers are way behind the times but their sales don't go down because consumers need to grab stuff quick even if they're not entirely happy with it. With the clothes they shouldn't be too expensive because they don't fit for long.

No, make a shirt showing Nicole holding a knife TO Spongebob Squarepants.

Though now that I see it's 'Spogebob' in your post, DAN PERRY TO THREAD!

How 'bout Razzmatazz?
Razzle-Dazzle?
Habiliment?
Get-up?
Giddy-up?
Donna's Duds?
Wellborn?
Elite Sweets?
Tiny Royalty?

I think it's a great idea.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 5 November 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Razzle Dazzle is great sarah!!! thanks :-)
i will send you royalty cheques when the money starts to roll in hahaha

donna (donna), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Razzle Dazzle is NOT great.

But then again I'm a childless 19-year-old who's mum still buys his clothes for him, so I'm really in no position to

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

(and with that, I cease to exist)

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 04:52 (twenty-three years ago)

how about...Ankle-Biters?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 05:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Clothes for your Little Bastards

Queen G (Queeng), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't Razzle some downmarket porn mag?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's a great idea. Because you have a need for a different kind of clothing, it's likely that other mums out there will too, but you could test the market by making up a few things and selling them somewhere like Ebay or a local market.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Ankle-Biters. And didnt someone in Shortland St try this not long ago? maybe that means it is an idea who's time has come?

isadora (isadora), Thursday, 7 November 2002 02:12 (twenty-three years ago)

oh really? i never watch that but yes maybe its a good sign.?
i am thinking of screen printing my materials, and then trying to sell stuff at some markets first, its a good suggestion madchen.

donna (donna), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Theirs had an animal theme but they seemed pretty impractical (from the little I know of kids) covered in fins and ruffs and furry bits -dirt catching devices.

isadora (isadora), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:27 (twenty-three years ago)

haha well no, mine wont have animal bits. i am thinking more of bright stripey stuff and spots, swirls, and paisley patterns in bright colours that wont show dirt as much and make the little buggers easier to spot from a distance ie: when they take off at the mall hahaha.

donna (donna), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Do it, Donna - esp. clothes for little boys, as I'm sure you know by now that they all suck.

luna.c (luna.c), Thursday, 7 November 2002 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Go for it, sounds like a great idea.
Razzle Dazzle has been done though, it was a cheap 'n' nasty accessories chain in the 80's they now trade as Internacional. Soz.

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 09:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Shortland Street still going?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)
