It looks like the Republicans have got ahold of the senate yesterday. So now they control flat-out (without relying on the complacency of passive democrats) all three branches of federal government in their entirety. If this has ever happened before, it was such a long time ago (I think) that it might as well not have. So I'm frightened (seriously, even on a personal level, re: the drugs that I like to do, the student aid I rely on to live, the various scary fascist unknowns that will undoubtedly make themselves apparent soon enough). Will it be as bad as all that, or am I stressing for nothing?

woo I'm tired. take out the "have" in that first sentence, please. right. Now to bed! they don't own my dreams yet!

Well, I guess any good Democracy reflects the wishes of its people. I guess America is half decent people but slightly more than half selfish fools.

maybe Nader was right -- maybe the people in this country need two years of unadulterated Republican stupidity, ignorance and nastiness before they wake up and come to their senses. though you'd think that the past two years of Chimpco would be enough to do that, but apparently not.

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 08:18 (twenty-three years ago)

How many more years of stupidity can we take?!

geeta (geeta), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 08:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Start a war, win an election.

As opposed to Democratic lightness, purity and beauty through and through? Because of course the left NEVER makes mistakes. Ten years ago the Democrats had the Senate, House and Presidency, and what happened two years later?

I'm starting to get thoroughly tired of this endless polarity in American politics between the GOP and Democrats. And I vote left, pretty much!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"polarity"? if you mean the ice floes we should strand Daschle et al on, i'm looking forward to it

let the back-biting begin!!

(however i am afeared that after we cut out the deadwood there won't be any tree left)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Any chance we could seal this particular ballot box? Some of us other posters have a serious experiment going on elsewhere.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

"If this has ever happened before, it was such a long time ago (I think) that it might as well not have"

Republicans controlled the house, senate, and executive branch in the first half of 2001. Maybe you were on drugs.

dan (dan), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Start a war, win an election.

b-b-but the war hasn't started yet!

ch. (synkro), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

"Maybe you were on drugs."

It's funny 'cause it's true.

Dan I., Wednesday, 6 November 2002 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, it's not bad, the government doesn't play that much a roll "on a personal level" anyway.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you being serious or sarcastic A. Nairn?

Dan I., Wednesday, 6 November 2002 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)
