what should the uniforms look like?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

what faces don't they like?

Denise Lambert, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots of gold-braiding + life-size eagle faces on the chest. I guess the rifles would be mandatory.

Miss Laura, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

We must all march with the turkey step.

Rockist Scientist, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

pants... flat-front or pleated?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

They should not look like this

Check out the First Pennsylvania Battalion, 1775-1776. Rrrrrowr.

these are all great ideas! I don't think the uniforms will look like those from the civil war because the civil war was an event that divided the country. we need uniforms that will constantly remind us of our marvelous unified empire!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The First Pennsylvania soldier has very knobbly knees.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe forearm is right... eventually, the republicans will approve genetic engineering, and the NRA, renamed Department of American Safety, will lobby for the above to replace the right arm of all proper American citizens.

shirts - button down or polo?

---
Gareth I am sorry that I have not been in touch. I am teary-eyed that I was missed at all!
I took a break from ILx because of all the emotional turmoil going on with being home, out of school, and at a shitty job. I am working on improving the latter right now, but it is hard to find a job that will pay enough to ensure that I am not living at home when I am 30 (or even 23).
I can't wait to see the pics. did you take any of us? if you did, I don't remember. damn boddingtons!

----
will women wear dresses or pants? after all, this is a republican empire, and the women must be womenly! no workers uniforms.

I can't find what I'm looking for & I have to go soon. Nevermind that old frumpy shirt & pants combo. That's been done to death. You need to look ahead to the future. One piece jumpsuits with velcro and kevlar. The logo will be an eagle with Old Glory in the background. AMERICA spelt out in a hemisphere on top, a hemisphere of stars on the bottom. A pair of crossed rifles below. My vision has kneepads so people don't get sore when they get down to aim. I'm stumped on the hat, though. Cowboy?

Miss Laura, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

these are tough choices.
colin's look is good, but Laura is correct, too. maybe laura's idea works for unmarried young women, whose only responsibility in the New Society will be to stay in shape for the menfolk. colin's idea will apply to married women. (In the republican regime, lesbians will either be placed into asylums as deviants, or employed by the state-run porn industry).

Something like this but ...uh...not a wetsuit.

FASCISM!

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you Ricky T! Whenever I read the word "facism" I always think of people with a weird fetish for certain faces. It's a pretty common mispelling so nobody should feel bad, but it's just one of those things...

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 7 November 2002 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

the state-run porn industry

Huh? Among many things the conservatives are looking to take out is the porn industry. And I have seriously seen conservative nutjobs try to classify honest information about sex and reproductive health as "pornography."

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

First of all,you must understand that I would have spelled fascism correctly if this thread had not been started at 9:30 in the morning EST.

Second, politicians will realize that the state-run porn industry will be a good way to distract the masses. Each movie will feature, besides sex, positive messages about the government. Think of this as being like the plight of Marxism in this country. Before, conservatives fought against it, and legitimized it. Now, it is taught by thousands of professors across the country, and it has become much less of a "threat".

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 7 November 2002 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like The Handmaid's Tale without the damn hoods.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Here were produced rubbishy newspapers containing almost nothing except sport, crime and astrology, sensational five-cent novelettes, films oozing with sex, and sentimental songs which were composed entirely by mechanical means on a special kind of kaleidoscope known as a versificator. There was even a whole sub-section -- Pornosec, it was called in Newspeak -- engaged in
producing the lowest kind of pornography.

George Orwell, 1984

producing the lowest kind of pornography

Trying to imagine what Orwell considered the 'highest' kind of pornography just makes me queasy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

The highest pornography for the RepubliNazis probably involves Katherine Harris all slathery with oil.
