Operation: Shut Up the Googlers is now in effect

In my attempt to stem the tide of poor-transcription-induced misinformation, I have posted the following message on my blog:

"'fremme neppa venette' is not an actual line from that new Missy song. It is, in fact, a very poor transcription of what "I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it" sounds like when played backwards, as it is on the actual track. Please stop harassing the ILx boards about it, I beg of you."

Checking my site referrals, it seems that somewhere between 75-90% of them in the last couple days have all been searching for that accursed phrase, so I can only hope that these people will finally learn the truth.

Of course, this might kill the single best running gag this board has had this year so... oops.

It also appears to have been a spectacular failure.

Some idiot posted it as a lyric to "Work It" and now lots of people think it's a real phrase.

J (Jay), Friday, 8 November 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Estimated time till someone tries to link to that page, people follow it from somewhere other than google, and are so confused that they each post 27 new threads to ask about it...? ;)

I could understand the new questions being asked on here because you often had to scroll down a page or use your browser's search functions to find the other threads - still, who googles a page, can't see the phrase immediately, and posts a new question before they press Find or look at the cached version? were they ALL deliberately trolling? - and half of those didn't answer. Then I saw the Missy messageboard where none of them had even clicked on any of the 20 FNV questions at the top of the front page before asking. Oh well. It was good for me to see some [possibly, hem hem, impending shocking arrogance and snobbery alert] fellow not-scarily-intelligent people on ILX for a change, anyway.
