This show rules and people should consider getting Hulu to see it.

In the writers’ room, the Muslim women were quick to clock that Ramy Hassan is a fuckboy. “I remember saying to Ramy, ‘Ramy, you’re a fuckboy,’ and he’s like, ‘No I’m not,’” laughs writer Minhal Baig, who is Pakistani Muslim-American. “I’m like, ‘Your character is.’ And he’s like, ‘No, he’s just trying to find love.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, but he’s a fuckboy!’ But, specifically, Muslim fuckboy.”

It's really, really good. I watched the whole first season and once it got into the second half and we got episodes focused on the sister and the mother, I was like, "Wait, why is this feckless idiot the subject of the show, again? The whole show should be about the women!" Even his cousin in Egypt is 500 times more interesting than he is.

My gf fell hard for it and watched the whole thing. It’s not really my cup of tea but watching a few eps with her I was impressed with what I saw, and also very relieved and pleasantly surprised that his character wasn’t a struggling standup comedian.

haven't watched this yet but glad to see Pen15 is coming back, that's one of my favorite shows of the past few years

Just watched the pilot of the HBO show Succession and the actress who plays Ramy's mom is in that, too, playing the current wife of a Rupert Murdoch-esque media titan.

Ahhhhh I knew I saw her somewhere before but couldn’t place and never imdb’d. She’s great in both shows, the mom episode in Ramy is a highlight.

Season Two is spectacular; there are a few scenes that are easily more transgressive and weird funny than anything I've ever seen on television.Whole cast is great, Mahershala Ali is an astonishing add.

About halfway through it now; watched the Dena-centric episode tonight, which was fascinatingly bizarre and hilarious.

Season two is so good, every episode is brilliant in a different way.

Thankfully Ramy the writer/director is as talented as his fictional counterpart is spineless and feckless.

I wanted to be in but we had to bail on season 2, from each episode's premise it was all too easy to guess the bleak way it would end up (thinking of the veteran and the mosque), and it was just too much of a bummer for the moment. I remember the first season having a little more humor to break things up.

it can be a bummer! I thought the humor was definitely there, just darker... which i couldn't have believed. I wish this guy was less weird about women though.

His weirdness about women is certainly critiqued, quite savagely.

I remember the first season having a little more humor to break things up.
There are a couple of (somewhat) lighter episodes later in the run.

I can't think of another TV lead character as flat out unlikable as Ramy. Even Walter White had some ostensible selflessness in his motives.
Fortunately Ramy does not appear in Ramy all that much, and it remains an excellent show.

He painted his character into a corner by the end of s2 and there was just no room for joy in s3–and barely any room for Ramy! It’s like the show marginalized its own protagonist because even the show doesn’t like him.

kinda, yeah

His apparent religious rapture in the S3 finale was painful to watch - so transparently clutching at spiritual straws rather than any kind of genuine awakening

Whereas it felt like his parents genuinely had come to a deeper understanding of their faith by stress testing it. Poor Dena, though.
