Rockist Scientist, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

there was a period in my life where every girl I was attracted to was only attracted to hippies. the girls themselves, however, were not hippies.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

From looking at people I have been involved with, I conclude that my type is women who are attracted to me.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

My type is those who want nothing to do with me. They are hott!

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

bnw has figured out the meaning of life.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i have two types: the kind of guys i want and the kind of guys i can get. these are not the same guys.

amy (amy), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

my mother on the phone the other day: "had you ever noticed that you always seem to go for short, fat girls?"

(nb: this is not true. some of them have been quite tall.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I totally have a type. Dark hair and eyes, pale skin, thin, a bit shorter than me, smooth (ie no chest hair). God knows I complain about things, but the guys I like are very often the guys I can get, so I guess I'm lucky...

Sean (Sean), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Make's Sean's type a woman with chest hair and you've got what I'm after.

Yancey (ystrickler), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

So many types, so little time.....

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

A certain physical type? No. A personality type, definitely. I like people who remind me of me: good drinkers, good talkers, fiercely passionate and curious about music/movies/writing, philosophical to some degree above the "whoa, man, heavy" freshman level, idealists (and idealistic bastards), people who find some romance in things of the past... I could go on, but this is starting to sound like a personal ad.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone who seems to be what they are not = my type, so i can then be fucked over big time and left wondering " WFT ??? "

oh, that sounds a bit depressing doesnt it. :-(

actually i probably go for the same 'type' as JBR, but the one i married also had other um, 'qualities' i was not aware of til much later.

donna (donna), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

" WFT ??? "

What Freaky Trigger?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

haha oops. i did mean wtf :-)

donna (donna), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

erratic geniuses with large breasts and a high alcohol tolerance.

angelo (angelo), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I do have a physical type I think, though obviously it's not a strict rule. I tend to go for short dark haired girls, I guess cos I'm small myself.

Personality wise yeah aswell, at least when I say yeah I mean there is some kind of pattern which has developed. I don't want to compare the two most serious relationships I have had, cos one is current and I'd be unfair to the finished one, but I guess I go for cheeky type girls, I've been accused of having a thing for tomboys before, and maybe this is true, I think at this point in my life I couldn't date or see anyone who wasn't accepting of clubbing/drugs etc, it's too big a part of my life.

Actually I've just typed a load of shit here cos I keep getting distracted thinking about what to make of or say about my current love interest, how lovely for me eh?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I reckon I value confidence above looks, way above it, though the two may go hand in hand to an extent.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

A certain physical type? No. A personality type, definitely. I like people who remind me of me: good drinkers, good talkers, fiercely passionate and curious about music/movies/writing, philosophical to some degree above the "whoa, man, heavy" freshman level, idealists (and idealistic bastards), people who find some romance in things of the past... I could go on, but this is starting to sound like a personal ad.

So Jody what are you doing this weekend???

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Once I thought I liked wispy little boy-men, but I didn't at all. Why would I be confused about this?

Actually I like big men with big frames. A little overweight is just fine, baby, thank you very much. Think of the picture of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and you've got me and the boyfriend. I'm teeny, he's big. Big bonus if the boy has mediterranean blood. Dark eyebrows are key.

Why do we like the physical types we like? Pipe down Freud, I got my skinniness from my dad. It's quite baffling.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

all my girlfriends are goth

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Happy and Dopey are no good, I'd rather have a golden retriever. Grumpy, no way. Sleepy: could be interesting in a kinky style, but you want em to move around some of the time too, ya know? Doc: I need someone who isn't gonna bitch about me playing Gran Tourismo for 11 hours at a time, so he's out. Sneezy? Yeah, right. Bashful: now you know he's gotta be a fuckin tiger in the sack, all rosy cheeks and coy looks. Yeah, that sounds good, Bashful's my type, I'd kiss that puckered eye any day. Then again, they're all just the right height, so fuck it.

ch. (synkro), Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Seven Dwarfs gang-bang???

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:09 (twenty-three years ago)

As mentioned elsehwere, I have a frighteningly strong preference for black- or brown-haired women with brown eyes.

Less important than that would be my preferred body type: relatively curvey. Low-slung breasts, though I'm not obsessed with hugeness. I definitely like to see hips. Not ultra-thin, but not too overweight either.

Though I'm short, I tend to not be attracted to women much shorter than me. (And oddly, when I am, I usually prefer them a bit more petite than my usual body tpye.)

*

I don't have as clear a "type" in terms of personality. Often I am attracted to women who are more extroverted than I am, but that may partly be because it's simply easier to get a conversation started with them. (Also may be that they have a personality trait I sometimes wish I had.) I can be attracted to a relatively traditional feminine style, but I like women who are strong, who know who they are, express their opinions, and don't hide their intellgience. Maybe more important: I like a woman who is as emotional as I am, and who embraces feeling. I prefer women who operate intuitively as well as intellectually, whose minds take leaps now and then, rather than just moving in a straight line. I can't relate well to people who aren't passionate about something or other.

But the combination of things that can be attractive to me, in personality, are more varied and can come in many permutations.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone i like seem to look like Calvin, of Calvin and Hobbes, if he was in his mid 20s...

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

no.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 7 November 2002 00:58 (twenty-three years ago)

no.
So Maria what are you doing this weekend???

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a type so predictable that pretty much any of my friends can pick a girl i'd find attractive a mile off. It seems to consist of girls who look rather like Emmy Kate Montrose but with glasses on.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

There is a certain type I always find very attractive, but it has had very little to do with who I have ended up being in relationships with.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm...so far I'd have to say that I am attracted to smart people.

liz! (liz!), Thursday, 7 November 2002 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

What Liz! said.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 7 November 2002 02:02 (twenty-three years ago)

hey jbr aside from the drinking you described me! so er I think you haven't adequately specified your type hahaha

Josh (Josh), Thursday, 7 November 2002 02:38 (twenty-three years ago)

You are her type, sloshy joshy.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 7 November 2002 02:46 (twenty-three years ago)

80s: 'The Lesbian' was my type.
90s-now: 'The Japanese art student' is my type.

80s: I was miserable.
90s-now: I am happy.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

i like girls whose favourite song is "96 Tears" or "Sally go round the roses".

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I like nerds, scientists, baffled people, insulting people, office workers, young gulping boys, tall gentle idiots, old decayed men, fat blotchy drunks who can't speak much.

But I don't like tall arrogant people, skaters/surfers/sportsmen - unless they're nerds, pot smokers, fathers, thin drunks who consider themselves smart, boys who say that they're honest to a fault or talk about money, alcohol or drugs a lot.

Marcy Matthews, Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I've ever even kissed a blonde.

Stuart, Thursday, 7 November 2002 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

duane, i kiss you

boxcubed (boxcubed), Thursday, 7 November 2002 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, i'm a nerdy baffled insulting young gulping tall gentle idiotic blotchy drunk who can't speak much!

i'm taken though, sorry.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 7 November 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

when they have the pale blue eyes, that just does it for me. i like skinny girls too. thats it i think

todd swiss (eliti), Thursday, 7 November 2002 07:10 (twenty-three years ago)

80s: 'The Lesbian' was my type.

Boy meets girl. His gaydar isn't working.

My type? Tall, skinny, erudite guys who are likely to be Bowie casualties. Most of my boyfriends have been exactly that.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 7 November 2002 07:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i mostly get crushes on tall skinny, intense boys often w/ borderline personality disorders who take illegal substances for pleasure and who dont even know i exist.
i always get with skinny intense musicians w/ substance abuse issues. what is going on here?

hellbaby (hellbaby), Thursday, 7 November 2002 07:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Scoundrels!

Miss Laura, Thursday, 7 November 2002 08:55 (twenty-three years ago)

1. Short
2. Bouncy
3. Ginger

(although everyone I've met like this has been objectively fabulous, so I think it's a personality type as much as it is physical)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 7 November 2002 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I've ever gone out with more than one woman you could type according to appearance: short skinny redhead, short zaftig girl w/extremely long dark hair, tallish slender shaved-headed girl w/close-set eyes, mod-looking girl, small Canadian redhead w/knockout figure, short pear-shaped curly-haired blonde, voluptuous black woman w/Afro, near-six-foot blonde w/great bones--I'm all over the friggin' place!

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 7 November 2002 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I fancy the morons with big heads. All my girlfriends are goth.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 7 November 2002 09:23 (twenty-three years ago)

there's definitely a few physical types that catch my eye when i'm walking down the street or at a gig or whatever. however only about one of the people i've gone out with has looked that way as the type is definitely less important than the person.

for personalities it's more of a case of what i'm not attracted to, so manipulative people who fancy themselves and play mind games need not apply.

angela (angela), Thursday, 7 November 2002 10:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Physically huge variation, though I will always NOTICE skinny, dark, scruffy indie types as a kneejerk reaction, originating I suppose with my first teenage crushes.

Personality-wise: well they have to HAVE one. I have often gone for broadly creative people, who have a tendency to think a lot (too much) about stuff and over-analyse.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:38 (twenty-three years ago)

not me.
someone else: "i like the ones with the pretty eyes."
me: "well i like all kinds of guys."
on second thoughts i do feel more immediately attracted to people who move with a certain grace. this includes some doofus gangly movements too.

minna (minna), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely.

Looks-
Dark, messy hair (but not too long). Dark, twinkley eyes.
Not too tall.
Not too short. Not too skinny.
(Don't want to feel like I'm with a little boy.)
Cute smile.
Big hands.

Personality -
Very bright & well-read w/ a Sense of Humor.

Oh, yes!!! MUST be a music snob/ musician.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a definite type, but it's just for viewing pleasure.

I end up with not-that-type types.

It's like the difference between someone being pretty and someone being attractive. I like to perv on the pretty ones but I'm usually not attracted to them, the ones I am attracted to are not necessarily pretty.

toraneko (toraneko), Thursday, 7 November 2002 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

i like:

bobbed hair (although i am liking short boyish hair on girls too now)
eyes that make you go "ooh"
cutesyness

personality:
friendly and easy to get on with
nice (people can think this is a negative, i don't)
similar interests is good, but not essential

oh dear, this sounds terribly vague and broad doesnt it? i suppose my 'type' looks a bit like rachel goswell circa 1991. but i can be attracted to girls that look nothing like this archetype, so its not particularly definitive

do i really want to admit the fact that i like those hairslide type girls, you know the ones i mean!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth- i think 'denise' might be yr type.

i don't have a certain definite type in terms of looks (doesn't mean i go for 'anyone').

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i also like dorkyness in girls, someone that can be a bit of a klutz sometimes

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I always had a thing for brunettes, then I married a blond. I guess I like women who are passionate about music, family, movies, books, beer and pizza.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 7 November 2002 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i like girls whose favourite song is "96 Tears" or "Sally go round the roses".

So Doorag what are you doing this weekend???

Remember, like Meatloaf, "2 out of 3 aint bad."

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 7 November 2002 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I've always said my type is tall, skinny indie boys but it took me 25 years to get one. I also have a very bad habit of fancying anyone if I find out they fancy me.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 7 November 2002 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a very bad habit of not fancying anyone if I find out they fancy me.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 7 November 2002 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

So if you fancy somebody and you find out they fancy you, does that immediately turn you off?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

It was mainly a flip comment. But I'd rather not go into it.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Brown eyes, dark hair, not thin, not pale, short. Italian, Spanish, Latino, etc. I should hang out at Morrissey conventions more often.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Absolutely a physical type, to the point where my friends can pick them out for me. Very tall, thin/wirey build, longish (jaw to shoulder length) dark hair, long face, big nose. Green/hazel eyes preferred, but greyish blue or golden brown also accepted. (See the creepy Freudian fancying guys that look like your father thread for why.) Added bonus points for men who emotionally unavailable, distant, or abandonners. Just like my dad.

For a while I had a phase of being attracted to guys that looked just like me, but I grew out of that as my self loathing grew.

I can be attracted to, and have dated guys that are outside of this type, but they tended to be people that grew on me for other reasons, rather than "Ooh, look at him, he's so hot" sort of attraction. Everyone tells me I'll end up marrying someone the day that I let go of the physical type thing, and go out with someone based on other things, like mutual emotional respect or something... but I don't believe them. If I ever settle down, it WILL be with a DDB. It would just have to be.

kate, Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

What's a DDB?

Dickon Edwards (Dickon Edwards), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

dirty dronerock boy = the spacemen 3 look

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 7 November 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

my current crushes are: 1) a librarian dark-haired lady who likes rock music. she looks beautifully weathered. 2) a soft spoken, shy dark haired girl with white jackie-o sunnies who seems as socially awkward as me and likes rock music.

i will say i DO have a type. but i'm not exactly sure what it is cos i know it when i see it. but this type is affected by personality, in that someone who i initially wasn't attracted to has a great personality which inspires my lust. or someone i was initially attracted to turns out to be a dick thus losing my lust.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 7 November 2002 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I purposely omitted the "likes rock music" bit because I was sticking to physical types, but yeah liking rock music absolutely clinches the deal. It's frustrating how few gay boys do, but at my age I'm used to it.

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 7 November 2002 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

liking rock music absolutely clinches the deal. It's frustrating how few gay boys do

They do exist, and in number, but they're just drowned out by the discotit mob.

Dickon Edwards (Dickon Edwards), Friday, 8 November 2002 00:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i like girls with boyfriends. possibly because they are often more casual in their appearance

ron (ron), Friday, 8 November 2002 04:43 (twenty-three years ago)

It's become a bit of a joke among my friends but I certainly appear to be attracted to 'boys with issues'. All the boys I've slept with were suffering from, or have at one stage suffered from, some form of mental illness and this ultimately led to the breakup of each of those relationships.

I could psychoanalyse this till the cows come home but really I just need to start finding a new 'type'.

Penny Lane (Penny Lane), Friday, 8 November 2002 05:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I have preferences but they're quite wide I suppose so my answer to the question if it's tending towards physical traits anyway is more no than yes. I have stronger aversions probably, like a disattraction (!?) for certain kinds of skinny/thin/smallness.

spectra, Friday, 8 November 2002 05:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I am not attracted to girls who are shorter than me. Except for one.

toraneko (toraneko), Friday, 8 November 2002 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

My sexual partners last year and this (i.e. after over two decades of monogamy) have been male and female, white, black and asian, with blonde, black, red and brown hair, ranging from 23 to 45 in age, from 5' to 6'4" in height, of varied build. No particular type at all. My present girlfriend (and I have big hopes for this still new relationship) is short, Italian, medium build - looks a bit like a thinner Italian version of Caroline Quentin, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 9 November 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Having such a clearly defined physical type SUXORS sometimes. Like when you see a picture of Joolz with dirty hair and realise... oh my god, dirty hair, big nose, really really REALLY likes the Velvet Underground ... CRAP! I've got to be attracted to him! But I don't WANT to be... I find him revolting... but he's my TYPE. Toerub, please....

kate, Saturday, 9 November 2002 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

martin they all fit into the earthling bracket (are you prejudiced?)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 9 November 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I admit it, Mark. And all were animate (more or less). All were human, also - I am speciesist as well as planetist. Probably galaxist too. I'll probably be universist if they ever manage to prove that there are multiple ones (I've seen plausible ways of perhaps proving this described, ways that may be here very soon!).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 9 November 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

i think i used to for boys- usually i went for skinny, dark haired indie boys - but i don't really have a (physical) type anymore.

for girls, most of the girls i think are attractive are dark haired. but again, it's not really a "type".

i definitely DO have personality type that i'm attracted to though: cheeky, opinonated, with a great sense of humour who make me laugh lots, but who also have a serious and sensitive side. awwww. northern irish and scottish accents don't hurt either. i also like them to be very passionate about music.

sand.y, Saturday, 9 November 2002 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i have two types: the kind of guys i want and the kind of guys i can get. these are not the same guys.

M3 +00.

While in theory my dream boy would be a tall, brown-haired jock without the fratboy behaviors and good taste in music, if I actually met a guy like this I wouldn't know what to do with him, I'm so unaccustomed to not getting what I want!

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 9 November 2002 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Shorter than me, slim, well-dressed (ie. not jeans), straight dark hair, big eyes, cute, passionate about music.

And the killer is, I know a girl who fits this criteria perfectly! She's mates with my best mates girlfriend and I understand that she finds me attractive but because she's sooo perfect I spazz out every time I see her. I either spout utter gibberish at her or ignore her because I'm scared of talking gibberish. How can I bypass this evil sabotaging bit of my brain?!

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Sunday, 10 November 2002 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

o dear ian, perhaps if you try to remember that she finds you attractive even though you spout gibberish? or hey, maybe thats what she likes about you. some people like gibberish.
im sorry, but i dont know of any cure for this common affliction :-(

donna (donna), Sunday, 10 November 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Get drunk!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 10 November 2002 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

1) Can identify Powermaster Optimus Prime
2) Likes Megadeth
3) Not too tall, not more than 5foot8.
4) Dark hair, not too short
5) Not into politics

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 10 November 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn, I only qualify on Jel's point three. Rats.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 10 November 2002 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Honest answer:
-Attention to detail-Hearing "Bryan do you spell your name with an "i" or a "y" for someone a take catches my eye is nice.
-Sense of humor
-Passionate about the arts
-Open Minded enough to listen to records films etc. that they feel they will not necessarily like, but will give it a try.

especially found of:
-Natural Red Hair
-Small ears
-Owns complete Flying Nun,Xpressway and Saturn catalogs.
-Tapes/Cd-rs them for me as presents

brg30 have you met hamish?

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 10 November 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sick for only one type: nerdy girls, smart, sarcastic, must have an advanced sense of humor, glasses preferred. Girls with pent-up sexual desires who go crazy and love to experiment but who you can always talk to about comedy. Freckles optional.

robert drew, Monday, 11 November 2002 08:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I like certifiably insane people, drama queens, and bartenders. Also I like men who look as much like my insane ex as possible. This probably says more about me than anything.
