Trial by ILX C/D?

What has got into everyone today? You are shattering my "everyone on ILX is nice and happy and gets along, even though they don't always agree with each other" illusion, please stop. I know some of you are friends outside of ILX but please if you have personal problems that need discussed couldn't you do it face to face or even by email? Today has been so depressing.

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, some of us have hangovers...

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

i'd say..... dud.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:54 (twenty-three years ago)

GUILTY! GUILTY! LET THE SENTENCE BE PASSED!

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:54 (twenty-three years ago)

plinky's right. it's been heavy as fuck in here today.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

it's not all kittens and fremme wotsit (this has totally gone over my head) all the time on ILX you know! it vaguely annoys me that people have this expectation that this should be a cuddles-only place. having said that, i've been on my fair share of "heavy" threads and i know better than to get involved - so i don't. things need discussing. they get discussed by the people that need to discuss them. sometimes it isn't pretty. simple as!

katie (katie), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

(um that post was not meant to be having a go at anyone btw!)

katie (katie), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

*hugs*

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

aww shucks! ;)

katie (katie), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

What Katie said!

Plinky, you can't dictate how people are going to act on these boards. You've given us enough of yr personal problems as well, remember?

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

yea, i know, its not been great today! it felt like the rest of the internet today where this is standard. but these days are the exception, the fact that you noticed it shows the difference. warning: the few times its like this, its usually for a couple of days, i expect we shall have some more again tomorrow:(

it depends on the thread, i mean there are a few heavy 'advice' threads, but i think these are good and useful. there are also the aggressive grandstanding comptetition threads which arent quite so nice

i have a hangover too, but then it looks like i'm definitely going to be able to go to cologne or strasbourg after all, so this is good. i am happy!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I accept that, I don't want it to be all Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows all the time but there is some pretty heavy personal shit going on that (and please don't shout at me, I'm small and feeble..) I reckon is too personal for the rest of us to be involved in. Some posters are using us to judge situations we know nothing about. I'll quite happily get involved in a vicious argument over Kittens - do your worst!
And yes, I have asked for advice before and I was very grateful for all the input I got, even the negative stuff. I just feel like we've gone over to the dark side today.

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

the internet is part of the world. it is not a dimension where everything is happy.

today was very good.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't been here today, until now. I love threads where people get aggressive and stuff. Point me in their direction, as I have missed all the fun and games thus far...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

It happens every 2 months or so, then one of these threads happen, then we all go and get drunk and play ping pong as per section 3.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Which threads did people get aggressive on. Tell me you fucking wankers, or I'll come to your houses and stick your fucking computers up your fucking asses.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Cool. For a while there I was worried I had lost my cozy little fantasy world where everyone is nice to each other, and gives good advice, and is slightly mentalist....

Plinky (Plinky), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Call me a hippie, but I'm all for peace. I think there's much to be said for a good debate. But no one needs to get dirty and personal.

Ok, I take that back - sometimes there is - but I think sometimes people just flare up because they want to have it out with somebody/anybody, not a particular person. So they pick a fight.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

agreed, which in a way means today wasnt too bad after all. how many places can you think of which would indulge that kind of stuff the way we do here?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, I saw the thread you were all referring to! Very entertaining! It's ok to have a thread like that every so often, so long as people don't go on every thread trying to be nasty. It's good to have a mixture of the contentious and the light-hearted.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

hehehehe! but you're a roy keane fan;) you've seen it all before!!!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Roy Keane is NEVER light-hearted! It's moodiness, tantrums and hissy-fits all the way! He is my god.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 7 November 2002 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

you have mcateer for the lighthearted though!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

or ole gunnar, depending which team we're talking

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 7 November 2002 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

i have just realised ( again ! when will i ever learn ? ) that i have been expecting to like people ie: everyone, and the reality is of course that it isnt possible to like everybody and their behaviour. so i get disappointed, then vaguely annoyed, when some people are mean or rude to others.
but its my problem, not theirs, so i guess it can all be put in the growing pile of 'lessons re-iterated but probably not going to sink in til next time, or maybe the next, or the next?.................'

donna (donna), Friday, 8 November 2002 06:11 (twenty-three years ago)

if i were presiding over this "trial," i would dismiss it with extreme prejudice

... though, of course, yer free to appeal to Mr. Meeder and Ms. Redwell

Before Suchodolski, Chief ILE Circuit Judge (llamasfur), Friday, 8 November 2002 06:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I still think that you are all quite well-behaved and grown-up even when you are yelling at each other, unlike the trolling nastiness on other message boards which is so unpleasant and which often gets out of hand. One of the things that I enjoy most about ilXor is the way you argue intelligently, disagree with each other, snarl and spit a bit, and then you're all friends again the next day. You guys rock.

C J (C J), Friday, 8 November 2002 06:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still seething.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 8 November 2002 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

No you're not. I distinctly saw a smirk there.

C J (C J), Friday, 8 November 2002 08:54 (twenty-three years ago)

N. can smirk and foam at the mouth simultaneously, CJ. He's clever like that.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't realise he was foaming at the mouth. I thought he had just been over-zealous with the Colgate this morning.

C J (C J), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

It was Beverley Hills Whitening Formula.

Important question: Do people in Beverley Hills use this toothpaste or not?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Whilst we're on the subject of American toothpaste: Arm & Hammer. I mean, wtf? What've arms and hammers got to do with cleaning teeth? Knocking ppl's teeth out, well, maybe.....

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Arm = used for brushing teeth
Hammer = suggestive of anal sex

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I tried using my arm. But the preponderence of reddish incisor-shaped marks on my tender flesh made me opt for a toothbrush, instead.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Does that Beverly Hills stuff actually work, N? I bought some but haven't been courageous enough to try it yet as I think it secretly contains some sort of acid which may dissolve my vulnerable choppers. This is almost as bad as the threat of having your teeth knocked out by Mark's Arm&Hammer toothpaste. Why is dental hygiene such a violent business these days?

C J (C J), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Arm & Hammer has baking powder in it. Honestly.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Chocolate chip muffins have baking powder in them too. Perhaps I could clean my teeth with those.

C J (C J), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I use the Beverly Hills stuff, but only once a day for fear of scrubbing my teeth into oblivion. It has made a difference, but hasn't completely got rid of the gross tea stainage between my front two teeth.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if it works as I have been unable to organise a control group and I refuse to brush only half my teeth with it.

I read some dentists' report that said the only whitening toothpaste proven to work was the MacLeans one, but I've never liked MacLeans. I used to buy the advanced formula Clogate one cause it was by far the most expensive and so I figured it MUST BE GOOD.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 8 November 2002 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

fwiw nick, i was angry yesterday too. well, not angry, just annoyed by the whole thing (specifically, that i allowed myself to get used in someone elses game). yesterday i had the lowest opinion of people in general since i was at micks funeral last christmas. and you know me, i like people.

gareth (gareth), Friday, 8 November 2002 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hammer = suggestive of anal sex

Remind me never to ask you for DIY help, Nick.
