The thing about this poll that jumps out at me is that it tries so hard not to notice whether the identification was well-merited and some change in one's behavior might be needed.

i think i'm gonna push back on that last statement a little. to me the way i read the context is that rip is/was in a relationship and their partner called them a "piece of shit" and aimless, your post reads like "well maybe you deserved it!" which even if it turns out to be true, how would you know? i figure it's well within rip's rights to implicitly define that question as out of scope.

I don't know, can't know, and don't pretend to know - but it seems to me that whether it was deserved is the most vital element of the event to consider, and of far more interest than the length of time it took for it to happen.

... Especially since the framing of the poll seems to assume that this is a serial event.

it took me about 8 years (into a 29 year relationship) to get an ash tray thrown at my head that split my lip open! At the time a work colleague of mine was beaten to pulp with a George Foreman fryer after arriving home in an indecorous state and passing out in the kitchen - so on reflection i didn't do too badly!
