apparently this place had a following in NYC though i've never heard of it in my life.

my basic question, not knowing the size of the restaurant or how many covers they could do, is how did a place that was only open for 5 hours a day 5 days a week have all of these ingredients available and fresh?

call all destroyer, Friday, 8 November 2019 03:22 (five years ago)

Gonna have to go with Danny & Laura

I'm scared my but won't fit in it. (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 November 2019 03:30 (five years ago)

I wonder how often you just got told "yeah we're out of that today" no matter what you ordered.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Friday, 8 November 2019 03:32 (five years ago)

Actually I take that back having just read their Yelp page, wow.

I saw a documentary about this place years ago, it's called I Like Killing Flies (unappetizingly). I think I made mac & cheese pancakes/waffles after seeing it.

I will have 3 mini burgers served in mac 'n' cheese pancakes, please.

Q: was this menu generated by a neural network

Frankie Four-Wigs (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 November 2019 14:35 (five years ago)

I'd like to think that regardless of what you order, you ultimately just get a glass of room-temperature soylent delivered to your table.

Frankie Four-Wigs (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 November 2019 14:39 (five years ago)

Ten Condiment sandwich, probably, if it's good enough for Moses.

this menu is very hard to read so I gave up on reading the whole thing and just let my eyes dart around looking for delicious and/or ridiculous combos, and after a while of darting, my considered but not comprehensive choice is:

"zesty" bread and breakfast name plate: "3 bbq duck & egg sliders on mac'n cheese cakes"

tbh I barely knew what these words meant but I guess this is a picture and oh boy, that's a heart attack on a plate. yes, I'll take it, thank you.

a passing spacecadet, Friday, 8 November 2019 15:32 (five years ago)

Um, those "sliders" are each full-size sandwiches.

Pauline Male (Eric H.), Friday, 8 November 2019 15:44 (five years ago)

loved i like killing flies, shd re-watch i dont really remember it well

johnny crunch, Friday, 8 November 2019 15:57 (five years ago)

what a horribly formed "menu"

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 8 November 2019 16:17 (five years ago)

Um, those "sliders" are each full-size sandwiches.

I recently ordered a side of silver dollar pancakes because I don't need to be eating an entire goddamn plate of full-size pancakes but then they turned out to be an entire goddamn plate of full-size pancakes (their full-size pancakes, as I learned, actually exceeded the circumference of the plate to kind of a ridiculous degree).

America.

oh I didn't mean the image quality, I meant that my eyes were protesting at the sheer amount of text and colours and gradient fills and asterisks and boxes and notes and numbers floating around, and refusing to pass the information on to the reading part of the brain

however I do note that you told us we had to read the whole menu before proceeding and I am therefore a very bad person to barge in here and declare that I didn't

so many things

so many

Frankie Four-Wigs (Old Lunch), Friday, 8 November 2019 17:10 (five years ago)

On second thought, I'll just have the $4 white bread toast, thanks.

Pauline Male (Eric H.), Friday, 8 November 2019 17:25 (five years ago)

Can i just have saran wrap on a sesame seed bun and then a few pickles, some Sriracha, a piece of string, and a piece of iceberg lettuce on top

Jordan Pickford LOLverdrive (Neanderthal), Friday, 8 November 2019 17:29 (five years ago)

xp ok great we'll get right on that. But 1st pick from one of these 19 types of butters for your bread.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 8 November 2019 17:29 (five years ago)

there are some recipes online trying to replicate the slutty cakes.

I've only seen the porn parody, "Follow That Butt".

you don't wanna know what they called the restaurant in that one

Jordan Pickford LOLverdrive (Neanderthal), Friday, 8 November 2019 18:34 (five years ago)

I just watched the NYT video on how they make the mac n cheese pancakes and it is totally a lot simpler than I would've thought. Pour the pancake, toss on some cooked macaroni, toss in some cheddar, wait and flip.

Yerac, Friday, 8 November 2019 20:21 (five years ago)

interesting. i had a mac first process in mind.

Ulysses do you remember what you ordered?

brimstead, Saturday, 9 November 2019 05:21 (five years ago)

i remember getting a club, bread pudding french toast and i think blisters on my sisters. as i recall, it was all good but also all very much a gut bomb. Not light eating and huge portions!

They're still open btw in the new, cavernous Essex Market. I miss the old one. New menu too; maybe the same roster tho:
