Best TV/Web/Streaming Series of 2019 - Poll Nominations Closing January 5

It's peak TV and you are there! I'm managing an ILX poll (and could use some help with the end graphics if anyone wants to volunteer) but I think we should wait till 2020 is upon us before we close the book. I'll run this in mid-late January if we get at least 20 voters.

Here's the qualifiers: any series of more than three episodes qualifies as long as at least one of the series' episodes has premiered somewhere in the world in 2019.

Acceptable nominations: YouTube/Twitch streamers with a recognizable episode to episode continuity whether fictional or presentational, webseries, streaming series, cable series, game shows, news shows, animation, talk shows.

Not acceptable nominations: sports, concerts, one-off documentaries or films, music videos.

Please specify country of origin when not US and network/media source.

What've you been watching?

surely, SURELY we should specify series number

hence, Stath Lets Flats should be Stath Lets Flats S2

but opening this up to Youtube channels is a gamechanger and I have lots of nominations, you have been warned

imago, Saturday, 7 December 2019 10:49 (five years ago)

i.e. there will be GeoWizard, there will be missions across Wales

With all due respect to imago PLEASE NO SEASON SPECIFICATION that's just getting too granular let's just consider shows as a whole shall we yes we shall

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Saturday, 7 December 2019 14:19 (five years ago)

Wow apparently I feel so strongly about this I had to post it twice

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Saturday, 7 December 2019 14:20 (five years ago)

but then it looks like we might be voting for something based on past glories - for instance of I want to nominate South Park S23, which I do, and consider this a nomination, I don't want it looking like I'm nominating all of South Park ever, they've been markedly better recently

idk maybe you're right, multiple seasons are so 00's anyway lol

imago, Saturday, 7 December 2019 14:35 (five years ago)

it doesn't get any more granular specifying season unless a show put out multiple seasons in 2019, but it does become clearer and more focused

imago, Saturday, 7 December 2019 14:38 (five years ago)

next week I'm starting the 2019 episode poll ;)

Are You The One? (MTV)

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Saturday, 7 December 2019 16:35 (five years ago)

feel free to add season numbers; i'll likely put that info in when we're doing the final list of options. Bearing in mind prior seasons is kind of unavoidable but the vote should be for the quality and enjoyability of the current season; a vote for Riverdale today is not a vote for season one.

I kind of like letting YouTube/Twitch channels in for this poll as I think it's where we're all most likely to find things we didn't already know about.

A few more nominations for things I'm planning on watching shortly and would like to have as a potential voting option:

Big Mouth (Netflix)
Country Music (PBS)
Dark (Netflix)
Dickinson (Apple)
Dollface (Hulu)
Doom Patrol (DC Universe)
Euphoria (HBO; I am kinda assuming this is gonna be terrible tho)
For All Mankind (Apple)
Frayed (Sky One)
His Dark Materials (HBO
Killing Eve (BBC)
Kingdom (Netflix)
Leavenworth (Starz)
See (Apple)
Servant (Apple)
SMILF (Showtime)
Sorry For Your Loss (Facebook)
Temple (Sky One)
The Accident (Hulu)
The Act (Hulu)
Total Control (ABC Australia)
When They See Us (Netflix)

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 7 December 2019 17:24 (five years ago)

Ah right ok! Well, I'll be putting series numbers on my own nominations but glad for the clarification.

Many US network shows have seasons that start in September and end in the following year, e.g. The Good Place aired the final quarter of S3 and the first 3/4 of S4 I’m 2019

I’m pretty sure the good place is the only show I’m considering that faces this problem, but it makes more sense just to vote for a show’s output this year, rather than splitting votes for two seasons of the same show

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 10 December 2019 16:43 (five years ago)

Aw Michael B, the main plot is a simple heist scheme gone wrong, neo noir style. It's all the stuff tied into it - wondrous twists, jokes and filming - that makes it brilliant. With stellar acting (and music).

Lots of things. The baroque interlocking relationships of the various characters (at one point, one person introduces herself to another at a party by saying something like "I'm your boyfriend's ex's husband's first wife") is hilarious, but I also find the portrait of Swedish society in general very interesting and funny, plus I enjoy listening to the language as a study aid.
