a question for KKK members

Why do Ku Klux Klan people burn crosses at their rallies?

is it because they wuv Christianity, and want everyone to see their bright shining cross?

or is it because they really worship SATAN and are attempting to destroy Christianity by burning its most potent symbol?

isn't this a question for Madonna, too?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 8 November 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

The former, in a "glorious flaming cross of righteousness" kind of way. Actually, a lot of their ritual imagery comes from Sir Walter Scott and other 19th-century medievalists.

(NB: I am not a KKK member, my application was rejected on unspecified grounds.)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 8 November 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a photo from the 1920s where instead of using a flaming cross, they were using one emblazoned with LIGHT BULBS. I don't think that quite caught on.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 8 November 2002 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha they should use plastic crosses filled with that green raver glowstick stuff! It would make them look like right idiots!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 8 November 2002 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Cross w/ light-bulbs = Marilyn Manson stage-show, surely.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 8 November 2002 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry - I can't see from under this stupid white pointy hat-thing.

The Klan: energy-conscious before their time?

you should email robert byrd and ask the former grand wizard.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 9 November 2002 04:32 (twenty-three years ago)

They should just have a big bilboard that says " DONT MIND US, WE ARE INBRED!> Burning crosses are dangerous. Have you ever seen those Italian KKK people who are catholic? I mean they are not really kkk but they look like it

there is a great book called triumph of the narrative by fulford, that spends gobs of time talking about the self mytologzing of the south, and their obsession with scott.

someone just posted this on facebook. it's from my hometown in rural missouri. very, very sad. down the highway from the house where I grew up was a long driveway to a wooded area that was always blocked by a gate with a giant confederate flag on it. my dad told me that "some people did KKK stuff there sometimes", but i never really believed him.

I live almost next door to a house with a KKK flag flying over it--I know there's a group here in *large town just south of Venice* (It's listed on the Southern Poverty Law Center site), but I don't know if they belong to it.

that is a disturbing photo. it's astounding to me that, in 2011, some yahoo feels comfortable wearing a kkk outfit openly like that. i'm sure it happens, but i haven't seen it for a long time.

Isn't wearing an all-white costume just begging to have colorful shit thrown at him?

Telephoneface (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 20 February 2011 19:11 (fifteen years ago)

Tomatoes, beets, etc. Hell, fill a super-soaker with paint and do a drive-by.

It's also crying out for a swift "Yoink!" of his headgear.

Also, a serious motherfucking beatdown.

KKK Members Out Recruiting In Park Hills, Missouri

(KMOV) -- Ku Klux Klan members were out in full uniform Saturday in Park Hills, Missouri, handing out flyers and stirring up some discussion.

The Park Hills Police Department received numerous complaints about the KKK members handing out flyers along main street. A spokesperson for the department said they asked the members to leave.

The members left peacefully without any arrests or trouble.

Reverend B.T. Rice from he NAACP in St. Louis County said, "obviously they understand this is Black History Month and they want to make a point that racism is still alive and it's still very much being propagated throughout the community in Missouri. Secondly I think it's important that we bring these issues to light so they don't continue to spread and swell."

One woman in Park Hills was so disturbed by the hooded people's presence that she posted a picture on the KMOV.com Facebook page and voiced her concern.

7 more super creepy pictures there (see especially the second photo in the slideshow - not sure if this link will work or not: http://www.kmov.com/news/local/KKK-members-out-recruiting-in-Park-Hills-Missouri-116547173.html?gallery=y&c=y&img=1#gallery-image)

CrossExamine -- now there's a creepy name for a KKK show

walid foster dulles (man alive), Sunday, 11 January 2015 04:09 (eleven years ago)

"Stories With Grandma" though the perfect title for a racist talk show.

"Freedom Rings" is also ok if you picture them getting onion rings confused with french fries.
