i really like when public opinion is visibly apparent.

i was just in a grocery store that has obviously partnersd with the boar's head brand. in the deli section, as you know, there's those open display coolers with pre-made food (mostly sandwiches, of course). this store had the entirety of one of those coolers dedicated to boar's head sandwiches. it was 98% stocked. i didn't look underneath, but every last one on the top was on markdown; reduced for a quick sale.

$9 sandwich is now $3? oh friend, fool me once.

i should have taken a picture because the sight of it was pretty funny honestly. no talking to communicate = best case scenario imo.

a random jimmy carter memory:
he was on the late night talk show circuit sometime in the late 90s/early 2000s. he was there promoting a novel iirc. there was this poor exploited eight year old child also on the show that night who was declaring himself to be the youngest republican to ever start running for president or whatever. in the middle of the child's interview, he turns to jimmy carter and says, "can i count on your vote for president?"

carter misses zero steps and responds respectfully, "i can't make that promise as long as you're on the republican ticket." then proceeds to articulately and gently tell the child that he'll have plenty of time to worry about such things when he's a bit older and i think carter may have even changed the topic to pizza or something right after. such a genuine, empathetic person.

idk where else to document this: i basically abandoned "real" social media years ago. like most things, i don't really understand it. with social media though, it's just a complete joke to me. like ... we use this to make satirical versions of ourselves, right? that's why i started a myspace account under the name "LONGFELLOW BEGAT GAYLORD" ―yes, exactly like that: all caps with quotes. how influential was bowie's heroes? i mean, really!― and put THIS JUST IN: CIVILIZATION IS AWESOME! as my location, logged out, and never looked back. i may have done the same thing on facebook i don't remember. on twitter i went mad. on youtube i post copyrighted music, amongst my own music.

some of these accounts were mindfully deactivated, some may still be out there floating around. i like to think longfellow got hacked by a bot and became the exploit of a disgruntled scenester turned script kiddie. oh well, we can't all have lived the glory days.

which brings me to: i did something intentional with my instagram account. i set certain things up, left it on public, logged out, deleted the app, and i'm gonna watch what happens. here's a screeshot of what it looks like as of this posting. better use of social media imo. do your worst and entertain me, you stupid robots.

I can't think of anywhere else to put it, but it amuses me that there was a spy-themed tie-in comic for the Bumblebee film that came out back in 2018 called "The Living Headlights":

It might have been hard for him to be a spy during the military build-up to the First World War, but perhaps he could have transformed into... a horse.

The comic seems to draw more inspiration from No One Lives Forever, the classic videogame, than the actual James Bond films. It's a parody of a parody. And now the camera cuts to Bob Harris. "Mock rock", he says.

a robot disguised as a horse seems rather far-fetched. how about a train? trainsformers? or perhaps an elaborate bicycle. the -formers could then be both bi and trans.

Thinking about the basis behind approval ratings somehow reminds me of when TV Guide ran this “Best Friends Character” mail-in contest when I was like 12.

Like, please Chandler’s gotta win this poll, it’s so obvious it’s Chandler, no I have never seen a single episode of this show but come on it’s Chandler.

When in the 80's DC Comics ran a reader's poll to decide whether Robin lived or died, the overwhelming response was that readers wanted him dead. Gotta assume those votes included some edgelords who didn't read Batman but enjoyed the thought of wishing death on a character.
