I feel like masturbating should be an option.

StanM, Wednesday, 11 March 2020 21:40 (five years ago)

Uncertain origin. Traditionally suggested to be a compound of manus (“hand”) + turbare (“to unsettle, throw in to disorder”), or a deformed compound of manus (“hand”) + stuprāre (“to defile (the self)”), from stuprum, with influence from turbāre – though the first part could also be mās (“man”).

Watkins traces the root to a Proto-Indo-European *mostr̥g-, extended and metathesised from *mosgʰos (“marrow”), also found in Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬯𐬙𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬔𐬀𐬥‎ (mast(ə)rəg-an-, “brains”) and Tocharian B mrestīwe (“marrow”); the semantic development would parallel "the symbolic autofellatio of Finn [mac Cumaill]'s gnawing his thumb to the marrow".

OMG, where to start. A lot of writing, a lot of reading, have already started an informal movie lineup...

I mean, the reality probably won't be as fun, given the state of mild societal collapse we'll be experiencing at that point and for some time thereafter, but it's keen to dream!

I have approximately a billion unread books, unplayed Steam games, unwatched e-learning videos, etc, and pre-COVID I have thought to myself that I was never ever going to get through them unless I was housebound for a period (I had thought this might have had to involve sickness or injury but had not thought too much about the type or implications tbh)

of course we all know I am going to spend any quarantine time exactly as I spend my evenings and weekends as it is: intending to do some of the above and instead reading ILX and twitter and getting stuck in an anxious/angry F5 loop

(and drinking, but our moderately well-stocked booze cupboard could run dry quite quickly if both of us are stuck at home and can't get to a shop, oh no)

Guess this is as good a time as any to organize my bookmarks. I've had this computer for five years and I have never once cleaned it out, and being a reflexive bookmarker, there's a lot of pointless shit in there, like the week I decided I might try to learn to play the mandolin and bookmarked like a thousand Youtube instruction videos, and many "Let's Defeat Trump, Here's How"-type articles from 2015

I also plan to list a million records on Discogs, because 1) it's a way to make a little cash while my work dries up (at least until the post office shuts down), and 2) it will double as a necessary and long overdue spring cleaning / culling

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 12 March 2020 11:40 (five years ago)

medicate for all (outdoor_miner), Saturday, 21 March 2020 16:26 (five years ago)

it's Wolfenstein Youngblood, from last year, where you play as two young women instead of the usual square-jawed guy. there might be a newer one now? I thought there was but then I realised I was thinking of the new Doom which came out this week.

I guess both are filed in my head under "nth-generation sequels of games I played in the early/mid 90s before I realised/decided that I hate 3d shooty games and every PC game released for 5 years was a 3d shooty game"

I bought myself Baba Is You in the sale last week, that's more my level of graphical sophistication - I was going to say "more my speed" but tbh I expect to get horribly stuck quite early on

Now that it is obvious to me that my self-isolation will be the norm for the foreseeable future, the most salient ways I will be spending my time (apart from making annoying posts to ILX as my chosen vehicle for maintaining contact with society) will be:

1) trying to sort, cull, organize and otherwise tame the mass of tangible STUFF that surrounds me in my relatively small, but cluttered abode, and

2) trying to eat as close to my normal well-rounded diet, based upon abundant fresh vegetables, fruit, dairy and eggs, as I can, while still exposing myself to grocery stores as little as humanly possible, while also

3) walking 2 to 3 miles a day.
