Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 10 November 2002 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sterling what the fuck are you talking about?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 10 November 2002 05:59 (twenty-three years ago)

hermeneutics = study of methodological principles of interpretation

-> 'your hermeneutics' = your methodological principles of interpretation?

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 06:07 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys need booze.

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 10 November 2002 06:10 (twenty-three years ago)

sontag dislikes hermunetics as per the other thread. she thinks they get in the way of "actual" experience -- but the "hermunetics" she attacks deny the v. existance of "experience" outside of interpretation.

so what are yr. personal hermunetics?

or do you think you just experience things directly?

jess's hermunetics = beer goggles?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 10 November 2002 06:33 (twenty-three years ago)

would you believe me if I said I had none, sterl?

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 06:46 (twenty-three years ago)

empericism!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 10 November 2002 06:54 (twenty-three years ago)

that sounds like a principle. I said NONE!

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 07:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't believe you.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 10 November 2002 07:19 (twenty-three years ago)

anyway i thought it was an epithet.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 10 November 2002 07:20 (twenty-three years ago)

do they have to be explicit to be principles?

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 07:27 (twenty-three years ago)

and do they have to be employed universally or consistently?

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 07:28 (twenty-three years ago)

no and no though certainly they're at least partly explicit -- you spend more time talking about them any anyone else I know, josh.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Sunday, 10 November 2002 07:31 (twenty-three years ago)

JUDAS!

Queen G (Queeng), Sunday, 10 November 2002 10:01 (twenty-three years ago)

mine are strategically fickle, though i think "hypocritically selective contrarianism" might serve: b.watson once called me an "authoritarian moralist", but it wz a long time ago

also there's a wide streak of roger rabbitism: "do you always [xxx]?" "NO!! only when it's FUNNY!!"

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 10 November 2002 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

My instinctual, gut reaction: HIPPY! (I mean Sontag, not you.)

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 10 November 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I think for most of us it probably works something like -- new thing is approached or encountered, initial response: "The hell?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 10 November 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

(the other thread)

jones (actual), Sunday, 10 November 2002 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys need booze.

Jess, I will now note on the calendar what will probably be the first time in my life were I will answer a big fat NO!!
Ginger Brandy,Jack Daniels and Miller High Life is not a good mix *puts icepack on forehead*

brg30 (brg30), Sunday, 10 November 2002 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

one of my principles is to not mix jack and miller high life.

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

that's really more of a defensive tactic though

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 10 November 2002 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked the article on Ti-Grace Atkinson in Hermenaut #16

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 10 November 2002 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I always thought hermenaut was a lame name

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 17 November 2002 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

six months pass...
''or do you think you just experience things directly?''

er, um, yeah...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 8 June 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

eleven years pass...

John,

Wasn't that better'n the church of hard knocks going on in the other strings about confinment of what's known and anonymous ... everythings dark side or that which we don't know about the infinite power is Moor'n we can imagine hooking up to*? Makes some that believe they know get right vicious about controlling it or not.

* I think A Greely wrote a book about that called Angelfire ... a spot too hot and numerous for him to deal with on point! As he wsa pin'n with curiosity? A sacred L'uv as they'd say in Greece ... the light of the meme an nun that Dawkins missed due to improper observation ... he miss'dite ... perhaps just misspoked ... abot latent things and hermunetics ... that which follows when some feel there are no consequences for anything!

Why is it so many ministers would rather fight than fly around a bit and find some answers as they listen to some silent source on information on abstract things. If you gather enough crazy answers something is usually indicated ... like sleep on it and think it over night ... after the darkness something usually comes of it ... the power of Dream-Time? Can rock even that Ayers thing-heh in Joey'land down under. Like Joseph in cephas realm when the lights go out in GEO Gaia (geological earth)? Consider the word logical as reasonable ... and then try ... some psychiatrists say that humans are too lazy to think ... did you read last copy of The OBSERVER? Great articles on the possible collapse of computerization with kids unable to calculate and do script and the market place de-energized! Is this pure imagination or prescience ... somebody speaking about hystey before it happens?

No more screwing about with my abstracts John!

Knob Dicks (wins), Saturday, 28 June 2014 17:41 (eleven years ago)
