Honestly there's a bunch of straight up awful films here, no? Fair Game, Biutiful (probably the worst. another possible poll...) and apparently both the Mikhalkov and the Mundruczo got savaged by the critics. I hate Mundruczo so that makes sense to me, and Burnt by the Sun 2 is apparently trying to update the very critical original into a jingoistic pro-Russia war film.

The Loznitsa is his best fiction feature imo. But a lot of his fiction seems kinda disconnected from his brilliant documentary career. Apart from their focus on Russia/Ukraine and corruption and history etc. I remember it as quite loose, quite dark, quite artful.

I should rewatch, but I think I would place the Loznitsa top three along with Boonmee and Certified Copy.

only seen boonmee and outrage. the former is a better film by leagues... but i do prefer the thought of the latter winning

The Housemaid isn't really that good, btw, but I couldn't help but think of it when I saw Parasite. Class warfare in a luxury mansion, except with Im Sang-soo it's mostly kitsch.

Finally watched Another Year this morning and promptly voted for it in this poll (liked it better than Uncle Boonmee and waaay better than Certified Copy. Seeing takes out there suggesting that Gerri and Tom are actually assholes for constantly shoving their perfect lives in the faces of their fucked up friends, which is hilarious.

I don't get it at all. It's an interesting failure, imo. I don't like Boonmee much past the first episode, but that episode is truly great.

Syndromes and a Century is an all-time great film for me, fwiw. I love Joe. Voted for the Beauvois.

I haven't seen Poetry but there's a good chance that I'd love it.
