figure we should stop monopolizing the Comedy Podcasts thread
― silby, Friday, 3 April 2020 16:03 (five years ago)
I heartily recommend that everyone grit their teeth and pay for Stitcher Premium for a little while or burn a free trial and listen to as much of this damn show as possible, ideally from the beginning, I'm going to sit down at some point and make a stab at an All-Time Episodes list
― silby, Friday, 3 April 2020 16:08 (five years ago)
Shaun Diston Christmas ep was joyful, as are most of the musical ones. Also any episode where one of them is on the phone (the Gabrus one was demented and I remember an early Scharpling one?)
― crisp, Friday, 3 April 2020 16:52 (five years ago)
should reiterate for the record that my favorite episode of all is "Doing Spont, Our Close Friend" which is nevertheless a bad one to start with because enjoying it kind of requires you to already be familiar with HH's rhythms as well as an entirely other podcast, Paul F Tompkins' now-defunct Spontaneanation.
― silby, Friday, 3 April 2020 17:23 (five years ago)
also the shrimp-off episode of Doughboys is an honorary Hollywood Handbook episode imo
― silby, Friday, 3 April 2020 17:24 (five years ago)
holy cow i was going to start this thread with the same name today. i'm so glad they brought back the "i love you and i'm in love with you" bit for the tony hawk episode this week (to great effect)
― na (NA), Friday, 3 April 2020 19:45 (five years ago)
all of the try month episodes were pretty great
― na (NA), Friday, 3 April 2020 19:47 (five years ago)
and i love that this is a podcast that has a "try month"
yeah honestly not a bad time to check the show out, several Pro Version episodes dropped in the free feed for Try Month as well
― silby, Friday, 3 April 2020 20:07 (five years ago)
I don't want to make it seem like just listening to recent episodes is "bad" but I have no idea how appealing the show is at this point to people who don't already like it. It's really good though!
― silby, Friday, 3 April 2020 20:08 (five years ago)
it's one of maybe four podcasts i listen to regularly and the only one i've bothered to keep current with while not commuting
― na (NA), Friday, 3 April 2020 20:13 (five years ago)
very fun episode today with these guys:
http://www.twitter.com/jeremylevick/status/1218281229667184641
First episode I ever heard was the Triumph at Comic Con I think. and the first episodes where I properly got into it were the critiquing Joe Mande's stand up eps.
― cajunsunday, Tuesday, 21 April 2020 20:15 (five years ago)
The Jeremy Levick/Rajat Suresh was great in the sense that despite claiming to be fans of Hayes and Sean the two seemed to have absolutely no clue how Hollywood Handbook worked.
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Thursday, 30 April 2020 13:34 (five years ago)
lots of lols in the shea serrano ep. just noticed new ep is mario bamford. simultaneously nervous + excited.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:35 (five years ago)
Maria Bamford ep not as sparkling as it should be given some practical issues but hopefully she'll be back someday. Shea Serrano was very funny with his "quiz answers".
Key archive episode to mention of the week: Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum, Our Friends from School
― silby, Wednesday, 6 May 2020 17:40 (five years ago)
I just started listening to this. It's funny at times but I feel like I don't really get it. Should I start at the beginning or something?
― Virginia Plain, Thursday, 7 May 2020 06:44 (five years ago)
Arguably, but the beginning is behind the stitcher premium paywall now. Give it 15 or 20 episodes.
― silby, Thursday, 7 May 2020 13:15 (five years ago)
if for some reason you listen to hollywood handbook but not double threat, sean and hayes are on a very funny episode of double threat this week
― na (NA), Tuesday, 12 May 2020 15:27 (five years ago)
heh, the reason is I no longer commute anywhere so my time for actually paying attention to podcasts is already inadequate to make it through my feed
― silby, Tuesday, 12 May 2020 17:12 (five years ago)
i hear you. i'm current on hollywood handbook and how did this get made (which only comes out every other week) but no other podcasts
― na (NA), Tuesday, 12 May 2020 17:15 (five years ago)
for cbb + hollywood handbook i listen to most episodes esp if i recognize the guest. it's good when this gets bumped w/ ep recs bc i do end up skipping them and miss good ones where i just didn't know the guests. also i'm way out of continuity for santaman vs moriority.
― Mordy, Tuesday, 12 May 2020 19:13 (five years ago)
my old episode rec of the day: "Ryan Gaul, Our Close Friend"

*chefs kiss* to the Harvey Guillen episode
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Wednesday, 1 July 2020 16:23 (five years ago)
ha, i was uncomfortable for the first half of the episode because i genuinely couldn't tell if guillen was in on the joke or not. so the moment when he goes to "kill the fly" was a big laugh.
― na (NA), Monday, 6 July 2020 14:36 (five years ago)
i had seen it was a shorter episode so that fed into my concern that he was actually mad
― na (NA), Monday, 6 July 2020 14:37 (five years ago)
theyve been in such fine form lately, i loved the kenny smith ep. "let's not... let them be remembered tonight" killed me

Very excited for the Cowboy TV Christmas Special (which is continuing a gag invented on the pro version, for extra alienating points)

Have you listened to Hollywood Masterclass silby?
― cajunsunday, Wednesday, 2 December 2020 21:04 (four years ago)
Yes I enjoy the Masterclasses they are a different vibe and in some ways a more relaxed journey, the Shonk Lemons character ends up being a very rich one imo
― is right unfortunately (silby), Wednesday, 2 December 2020 21:06 (four years ago)
cowboy tv had me cracking up yesterday. the rodgman episodes are all pretty good.
― tylerw, Wednesday, 2 December 2020 21:08 (four years ago)
it was goddamned delightful, a ton of laughs just when i needed them.

― is right unfortunately (silby), Tuesday, 8 December 2020 16:42 (four years ago)
i haven't heard about this yet but i am concerned that not being able to complain about earwolf anymore will cut down on their material by 80%
― na (NA), Tuesday, 8 December 2020 16:44 (four years ago)
There’s an announcement at the top of the show this week. Chef Kevin is coming with them but I’ll miss the engineers.
― is right unfortunately (silby), Tuesday, 8 December 2020 16:44 (four years ago)
I think they may have fulfilled all their ad commitments for the rest of the year in one episode today.
― is right unfortunately (silby), Tuesday, 8 December 2020 20:44 (four years ago)
Wow the boys have been nominated for Best Ad Read at the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards! Well deserved!

i have not been listening regularly but when i've dipped back in recently it feels like the boys (especially hayes) are being more overtly aggressive/rude to guests. i'm used to them being more covertly insulting. maybe bc i gravitate to the ones where they have their buds on and those are the ones where they feel they can get away with it?
― na (NA), Thursday, 11 March 2021 19:21 (four years ago)
I'm kind of glad the boys are back on their usual nonsense this week.
'The Podcaster's Promise' felt like an interesting work of art but wasn't always the easiest listen!
― cajunsunday, Thursday, 1 April 2021 10:30 (four years ago)
idk I could’ve gone for another month of that flailing concept
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Thursday, 1 April 2021 14:50 (four years ago)
I’m trying to guess how many drinks hodgman had before his episode because that was a hilariously tough listen at times.
― Western® with Bacon Flavor, Thursday, 1 April 2021 14:51 (four years ago)
Two good low-key runners:- Sean breaks into song and the show just keeps going around him- Sean says “give me a beat” for a rap, then insists on slowing the beat down
― Canon in Deez (silby), Saturday, 3 April 2021 17:30 (four years ago)
Amazing Arclight story from Sean
many people know I proposed to my wife inside the ArcLight Hollywood, but few will recall this equally touching story about going there to acquire a promotional Deadpool glass... pic.twitter.com/u6q3TdDjWu— sean clements (@SeanClements) April 13, 2021

A+ song parody on today’s Flagrant Ones, including a somewhat surprising payoff to the ‘Carl’s Chinese gun’ recurring bit for anyone watching the video
― crisp, Thursday, 2 December 2021 17:36 (three years ago)
Yeah and it was great seeing the boys enjoy it so much. What is the Chinese gun bit?
― ceci n'est pas une messi (cajunsunday), Thursday, 2 December 2021 19:50 (three years ago)
He said in an ep ages ago that he’d ordered a gun from China or something and then it was referenced a few other times where he was talking about it taking ages to arrive - pretty sure some previous fan songs have included mentions of his Chinese gun
