Followed the alt.music.alternative Star Chamber to Freaky Trigger; a message board followed. Was intrigued by good writers who wrote about Destiny's Child and Ryoji Ikeda with equal seriousness and took on the then-prevalent rock-critical orthodoxy; thought they could use someone who would rep for Boston and Boulez.

i lurked for seven or eight years reading only american football threads and defences of the academy before actually jumping in under four or five usernames with wildly different personas on ILM from 2016 thru about summer 2018. settled on this one in late 2018 and am delighted with the place since.

I found it from the side roll of a music/mp3 blog in that era, I think it was josh blog.

I was at one of the lowest points in my life and was googling things like "I am sad" and "I am lonely" etc. One day I made a conscious decision to turn that around and google things that I actually liked instead, and I googled "I love music". It was a move that exponentially enriched my life.

That's how I found it. I joined because I felt like I had stumbled on the right kind of community. Music-obsessives who weren't just obsessed with one band or genre and whose knowledge was way deeper and more esoteric than anywhere else I'd tried to fit in. There was such a chaotic group of personalities, and I hadn't even let myself look at ILE or the noise board or anything like that!

This was also right in the middle of the controversial introduction of polls, which I couldn't really weigh inat the time on whether they were a good thing or bad thing for the site, but they made it easy to participate even if I didn't always feel like my opinion was something worth stating.

I had a question.

I couldn't get Glastonbury tickets in April 2004 and there was a thread here where people had worked out how to tweak some urls and bypass the queue. But I'd already met a few people from here IRL pubs anyway at that point, definitely Matt DC and Stevem, possibly a couple of others too.
