Let me please introduce myself... I am Nick Harte of New Zealand. I have a group going called The Incisions, and another that I have recently killed called the CM Ensemble. I know that creepy guy Doorag/Unknown User and maybe even that other one George Gossett.
My question is:
Is there anywhere in Atlanta worth checking out music-wise (live or especially new or used music stores)?

There are probably others here more qualified to write about this subject, but I find myself browsing Wax 'n Facts, Wuxtry, and Criminal Records mostly.
Wax 'n Facts: good prices, lots of vinyl. Closes early on weekdays, though (8 PM).
Wuxtry: friendly staff, good selection. A little cramped in there, though.
Criminal Records: prices are a little higher, but they have a good selection and also have DVDs and comics. Start at Wax 'n Facts, then when they close, walk down the street to Criminal Records (open 'til 10 PM on weekdays). I'm only in Atlanta on the weekdays, so that's why I'm obsessing about store hours.

Venues: the Echo Lounge and the EARL are the places where the bands I like usually play. Also the Variety Playhouse (where I'm seeing the Residents tonight! Yay!) and the Cotton Club may be of interest.

Hey, I just picked up yer disc when I was down there. So there's a new band now?

Everything's in Cabbagetown or South Atlanta/East Point/College Park (less so College Park). The rest of it is a yuppie wasteland. Little Five points is Buckhead with it's nose pierced. Richard Devine and occasionally Scott Herren live there, but they don't play out any more than if they were coming through on tour. Chan Marshall's playing thanksgiving if you're hardup for cute schizos. Chipper Jones is an Ozzy fan.
