So, what songs have been stuck in YOUR bloody head all day?!

Baggy Trousers = TODAYS CULPRIT. But a very bad recent offender has been Andrew WK with his ROCK WAYS. Party hard! Other songs on a caution are EVERYTHING from Buffy the Musical and er JUST LIKE A PILL where Pink is a goth!

She is a rubbish goth. Gothocat is better!

(baggy trousis something er... bloo, lalala break the rule...)

Also, boom shake shake shake the room... the theme from the Gordon the Gopher show, but ONLY the "gordon, gordon, the gopher" bits.

I was reduced to tears of laughter once by singing "king of the road". You know. With the road safety and the hedgehogs.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

DEUTSCHLAND DEUTSCHLAND UBER ALLES.

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

(I am lying)

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Unfornately, I had The Modern Age stuck in my head for most of the day. Ugh! I've finally managed to banish it, but it's been replaced by MacArthur Park. Ugh! You know it's a bad sign when you'd actually rather have MacArthur Park stuck in your head...

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I have been trying to remember what Be My Baby goes like after playing in my head for teh whole of the walk home on Satirday. Unfortunately all I can think if Bye Bye Baby, arg.

And after trying to remember the Gordon the Gopher theme just now (=TV's greatest sitcom), all I could think of is the Bodger and Badger theme. Thanks Sarah.

Graham (graham), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

You say that now, but later on tonight you will not be able to rest because you don't know any other lyrics apart from "uber alles in der velt" or however it goes.

This happened to co-worker Mike and I during the world cup. We ended up printing off the lyrics to the German national anthem and putting them up on the wall in our bunker.

NB I still do not know any of the words and I am vv surprised he did not get lynched for it.

The RUSSIAN national anthem is grebt.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Be my, be my baby... (be my little baby) be my, be my baby ... oh OH-oh, uh-WHOA-OA-OA-OAAA... ::great drum break:: (and then back to the wall of sound)

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Awww Kate. Are you gonna come round and tuck me in too?

Graham (graham), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i have intermittently been singing "Ya mo B there" by james ingram, because of that effing NaNoWriMo thread...

did you know the leitchenstein anthem is to the same tune as "god save the queen" (NB Not the Sex Pistols' one), that should fox the footy fans when we play in the european qualifiers...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

It goes "gordon, gordon! the go-FER!". Well the bits I can remember do.

There is a GREBT site (80snostalgia.com or something terrible along those lines) with soundclips. Co-worker Mike and I were made stupidly happy by the theme to JIMBO and the Jet Set.

Jimboooooohhhhh!

every single night, the same arrangement, i go out and fight the FITE. still it always seems this strange estrangement, NOTHING HERE IS REAL! nothing here is RIGHT!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Bertha, Lovely Bertha. BUT what is the next line?

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been making shows of trading blow, just hoping no-one knows - that I'm just going through the motions... waking through the part. Nothing seems to penetrate myyy [clutches chest] HEART

katie (katie), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

"The theme tune went somewhere along the lines of ' Bertha, lovely Bertha, you are a lovely machine. When we work out what you have to do, you can always get the goods out, always get the goods out, we can depend upon you '.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

RAH

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

katie (katie), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Alan (Alan), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I've had 99 Red Balloons in my head for about a week now. You'd have thought at least ONE of the fuckers would have burst by now.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha they played Neunundneunzig Luftballoon in HMV when I was in there on Saturday not asking for a job applicaiton form. I believe it to be the second greatest record of all time.

Graham (graham), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe you can leave the cap on the White Out loose sothat they call spill it all over their crotch

brg30 (brg30), Monday, 11 November 2002 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Alas, no, that didn't work. It's back to the Sucks. Shoot me now, put me out of my misery.

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

How can I have a song with NO DISCERNABLE TUNE stuck in my head?

(The first person to make a crack about dronerock and/or Spacemen3 will get smacked...)

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I get foreign songs stuck in my head. Lyrically, very annoying.

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

DJ Sammy - Heaven

jel -- (jel), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw their newish video kate, now I kno the secret of your Stroke-sex: they are v v dirty (as in sweaty/pimply/eye-caked).

I have also worked out the secret of their pop magic (such as it is): it's not VU it's SINATRA! Can a collabo with [insert aging crooner here] be far off??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

My god, Tracer, yer right! I was WONDERING where I'd heard those vocal stylings before. It's not Lou Weed. it's not Iggy. it's FRANK SINATRA!!!

(It still hasn't got the friggin awful song out of my head, but still.)

As to the dirt, yes. Sigh.

The singer from The Dirty talked to me yesterday. Coz I laughed at them manhandling their organ down the stairs, and it brought back fond memories of when we used to have to cart around Stella the Vox Continental. Dirty boys and their organs ... mmmmmmm ...

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i wanna be a Nord

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I was reduced to tears of laughter once by singing "king of the road". You know. With the road safety and the hedgehogs.

Argh! I get that shit all the time - except it's the frigging Proclaimers version that's the main culprit. Fuck knows why - I haven't heard it in about 10 years!

Yesterday it was Mr. Blue Sky.

dog latin, Monday, 11 November 2002 18:44 (twenty-three years ago)

*Still* I Will Always Love you. Seven weeks and counting.

(i've been lsitening to the qonderful Dolly version, but in my head is Whitney. So like real life.)

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Not that anyone is going to read this, 'cos nothing's been posted today so far but I have the ULTIMATE SOLUTION for when you have an annoying song in your head and you really want to get rid of it thankyou very much. You need to replace it with a song that will make you forget the song in your head, while of course not replacing it.

There is an answer. Just try it. Go on. Sing to yourself; "Ding ding ding went the trolley, clang clang clang went the bell, twang twang twang went my heartstrings....." and by that point you'll have forgotten whatever it was that was plagueing you. Along with who you are, where you are, and what you are doing on a messageboard. What day is it again?

angela (angela), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 11:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Styx's "Heavy Metal Poisoning" and Serge Gainsbourg's "Je T'Aime" have been fighting over the sovereignity of my head. I hope to God Serge wins...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, Serge's 'Cargo Culte' owns my brain bigtime these days.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Humming 'I want you' for two hours nearly non stop did not impress favourably those seated next to me in the plane on Friday...Plus some stupidifiedly happy smile.

arantxa, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Bloody hell.

"bless my cotton SOX I'm in the news (doo doo doo, dooo doodooododo)"

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

"WHEN do I get my rewarrd?" (stupid video stylings of brass section)

Damn you Starry for now I will have the spectre of Julian Cope in my heed all afternoon. May have to shred myself in the stationery office.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Suspended in Gaffa by Kate Bush b/c it was the last song I listened to before deciding I could cope with my faulty headphones no longer. The ayee-ah ayee-ah bit specifically. The Dreaming is grebt for wordless (or v.oddly sung) hooks all the way through actually!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Humming 'I want you' for two hours nearly non stop did not impress favourably those seated next to me in the plane on Friday

Dylan, Costello or Crow?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

last night i smoked some grass which was stronger than i had anticipated. i couldn't get "world of our own" by westlife out of my head and convinced myself that it was the greatest pop song of the last few years. after a good night's sleep i no longer feel that it is. i do still like it, though.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

The Ketchup Song owns this thread.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst was when I had insomnia due to every Beach Boys song ever made playing simultaneously in my head in a ten second loop.

I very nearly died.

dog latin, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

For the longest time, my head was sort of ruled by P-Funk. Sometimes, when I was feeling particularly happy, I would hear myself starting to sing along with the "We got the funk, gotta have that funk... OW!"
