how rabid do you get about your 'footy team' ?

i have often wondered at the way all UK footy fans i see on tv are the fanatical-yelling-hysterical-fervent type. is this the norm? what is it like in the USA?
here in the antipodes we do like rugby ( league / union ) but i am yet to see the same level of individual fervour over any of it.
or have i just missed it?

there's not much to get rabid about.

is the level of passion about a 'team' directly related to the level of passion ( lack of ) in a persons life?
if thats the case, there are an awful lot of people out there with not enough to believe in!

You should try asking this question on I Love Football!

Oh wait, except no one bothered setting it up...

(replace the "team" in your statement with "music group" then repose the question on ILM, and watch the flames fly...)

on a team level, not much. The occasional overheated parent will start hitting another parent with lawnchairs but at the semi-pro/provinical level there arent enough crazies to cause fights. Now at the rec/lowlevel mens competitive it depends. The ethnic teams (Croatian, Slavic, Greek or English it doesn't matter) causes problems all the time but thats usually kept amoungst the players and coaches. Quiet often its related to race relation issues and nothing to do with soccer.
If Italy is playing Portugal its usually a good idea to avoid "Little Italy" in Toronto cause things get tense no matter who wins since the area is mostly Portuguese but the visitors in the bars are Italian.
Heck even Celtic/Ranger snipping is usually friendly, well I've never seen it come to blows here which qualifies as friendly.

My life goal is to be part of a football riot in England.

I think football is one of the few things I've really gone into uber-vehement fights about. Baseball too.

one of the most stupid things I've ever read on ILx.

You've obviously never been caught up in such a thing have you, muppet.

I personally reckon being caught in a riot would be fucking scary.

Being caught in a riot is the one thing I most passionately hope to avoid.

Although I do regard it as a SERIOUS MORAL DUTY for Crystal Palace to beat Oldham Athletic in the next round of the Worthington Cup (long story on this one).

Is that related to the riots?
