tell me in your own words: what does conditioner (as in shampoo and conditioner) do?

shampoo is for cleaning hair. conditioner is for ?

coating hair which would otherwise be dry after shampoo strips oils away

it makes the hair smooth and manageable. also luscious. and tames flyaways

:)

if you have short hair and dry skin it is important

Moisturizes for Softness and Manageability with a unique self adjusting formula containing Silk and Soy Proteins that protect the hair shaft with a coat of conditioning and shine, providing an extra boost of conditioning and protection for superb softness and shine, manageability and strength against future damage

conclusion: conditioner protects the hair with a coat of conditioning and also provides an extra boost of conditioning

your hair may only be a 30-grade tool, but with Manageability it could play up to a 45 FV (potential fourth outfielder)

it's simple. shampoo strips away dirt and oil. conditioner puts a similar amount of less-dirty oil back.

a dab of conditioner makes a difference for some of us

Dan S, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 01:12 (five years ago)

I don't know but I use it sometimes hoping it'll make my curly, uncut hair behave but it never does.

lukas, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 01:13 (five years ago)

who really 'owns' words i ask you. certainly not the hair scouting community

mookieproof, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 01:13 (five years ago)

wish I had curly uncut hair tbh

Nah. Think, like, Sideshow Bob.

lukas, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 01:16 (five years ago)

so many more possibilities with that kind of hair. mine is just a brush cut with a cowlick and it is limp when it gets longer

Dan S, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 01:22 (five years ago)

i use pert plus these days so my shampoo and conditioner is ALL THE SAME THING

Makes the hair softer.

pplains, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 01:30 (five years ago)

I also use a combination of shampoo and conditioner in one bottle, and now I'm wondering how it works — if the shampoo part strips away grease and oil, and the conditioner part is supposed to restore some, but this is happening at the exact same time...which one is winning?

it’s about balance

brimstead, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 02:30 (five years ago)

years ago i had an idea to collect all the pseudo-scientific claims made on bottles of hair product for a tumblr or something, because it's absolutely batshit stuff. bonus points if there's a french translation for no discernible reason (not applicable in canada)

mookieproof, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 02:32 (five years ago)

is there a punchline to this thread

i read once that shampoo opens your hair cuticles and conditioner closes them again - here we go: http://kymscuttinggallery.com.au/shampoo-conditioner/

however another site says "The pH range encountered while cleansing your hair is not high enough to open the cuticle. This is a myth.", another site says that hot water opens them and cold closes. verdict: unproven.

we don’t need to be getting to the micro level here... you can feel it with your hands when it’s right

brimstead, Wednesday, 5 August 2020 18:18 (five years ago)

what is hair

Basil Ker-ching (Noel Emits), Wednesday, 5 August 2020 18:36 (five years ago)

baby don't wash me

i only use conditioner (no shampoo) -- it makes my dry, dense, curly hair less frizzy, softer, and closer in resemblance to the hair in pictures of attractive people in advertisements.
