Since A Field for the British Isles opens at the British Museum otn Friday: What do you all think of the 1994 Turner Prize winner.

i saw this in IMMA a few years back. the scale made it impressive and the slight differences in each little clay figure made it human. i like anthony gormley's stuff.

"scale" is the wrong word to use there. it was the amount of little figures and the space they took up that was impressive.

I work five minutes walk from the British Museum, so get there pretty often. I'll pop in next week for another look at the little fellers.

I really like him generally, and I think the popularity of the Angel of the North is important for modern art, to provide some sort of counterbalance to the derision for dead sheep and flickering lights.

I agree with jel: my first reaction has always been 'aww, look at all their imploring little eyes!'. I also think there's something impressive about number and texture, but as I haven't seen the installation other than in photographs, the visceral impact I can only guess at. I'm also guessing that the artist has some underlying interest in power. i.e. dominion over all these little people then awe in the face of the Angel?

Field is great because there's so much to discover in it, all those little people all different.
