If "the grid" is the internet, over the past 25 years I've easily left close to 100,000 little text messages on various Usenet newsgroups, LUSEnet forums, backpacking forums, amateur programmer's forums, ILX and whatnot, which, if mined extensively would probably allow the government to figure out my opinions in enormous depth and detail, along with much extraneous information about my hobbies, religious beliefs, personal history, tastes in clothes, and a dozen other tidbits of the sort that fictional cops on tv always want to know about all those fictional serial killers.

otoh, I do have a Facebook account and do not carry a smartphone with me everywhere, so the authorities would have to locate me on planet Earth the old-fashioned way, by CCTV face recognition.
