Evan, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 14:30 (five years ago)

there absolutely is no god

shout-out to his family (DJP), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 14:32 (five years ago)

people have told me that if you cook okra the right way it isn't slimy and disgusting, maybe one day I will find out what this right way is.

这是我的显示名称 (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 14:35 (five years ago)

The correct way to cook okra:

1) throw it in the garbage
2) set the garbage can on fire
3) move

shout-out to his family (DJP), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 14:37 (five years ago)

Okra is really really good stuff, y'all. Nothing slimy at all about that brand in Tombot's photo.

I am concerned about the little man on the label, his posture doesn't suggest "having a few hot okra pickles while casually leaning against texas" so much as "in severe abdominal distress, had too many hot okra pickles and am now undergoing emergency bowel evacuation against texas"

dang

I'm not even talking any like "man do you know this Indian okra dish, it'll blow your mind", I'm just talking about like your average meat-and-three fried okra, it is good

Joey Corona (Euler), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 15:12 (five years ago)

okra, is good

adam, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 15:13 (five years ago)

The ok in okra is autologically accurate.

That said, Okra Jim would not have been as fun.

Earthworms can be great but I always wonder... what if they don't throw me back this time?

Evan, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 15:18 (five years ago)

If you would not eat New Orleans shrimp and okra gumbo idk wtf is wrong with you.

Orson Well Yeah (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 15:28 (five years ago)

Gumbo is never made better by the presence of okra

shout-out to his family (DJP), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 15:39 (five years ago)

In fact, a successful gumbo hides the flavor and texture of the okra in the other components and seasoning

Never had gumbo but Ethiopian bamya alicha is unquestionably delicious, whether you like or okra or not.

hey, trust the fungus! (pomenitul), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 15:46 (five years ago)

IMO, it's not gumbo without okra (mbundu ngombo in Bantu). I only make a vegan gumbo perhaps once a year, but I also grew up in a family that did battered okra on a monthly basis. One gets used to the mucilage.

If it's slimy you're doing it wrong.

Deflatormouse, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 19:08 (five years ago)

Would imagine the chewiness of an earthworm to be more offputting than the sliminess. Err, speaking as a vegetarian...

Deflatormouse, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 19:17 (five years ago)

I would probably eat a cooked earthworm that had been reared in hygienic conditions that I was absolutely sure was carrying no parasites. Maybe deep fried or something.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 19:21 (five years ago)

okra is great. steam it in water and a splash of cider vinegar. layer up with green beans and melted cheese

HAve been putting a handful of okra into my stir fry /stew things for the last coupl eo fyears.
Not sure if that's the best way to eat them but do think it works ok.
Sliced into small slices and just bunged into the mix. Still haven't fully rationalised what needs to be cooked longer than what but think it works out ok. Only drag is how long chopping everything takes.
BUt the okra bit gets done really quickly.

My contacts got blurry, read that at first as "Have been putting a handful of okra into my ear"

Apparently roasting okra makes it not slimy, and it roasts just like any other vegetable.

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Sunday, 20 September 2020 00:50 (five years ago)

i had to look up what far far/farfar is and it is a thing you drop into hot oil and the "okra" or whatever shape it is will puff up and it becomes a tasty fried snack. also called "fryums."
