mitch's very boring yet urgent flash question (do not read if you hate tracing bitmaps)

okay i can't find info on the net that i need about this and i can't wait for macromedia tech support to get back to me, so i'm gonna take a chance and ask you people:

i've got a bunch of .mov quicktime movies that i need to edit in flash. what i've been doing thus far is most laborious: opening and saving every frame in imageready, then inserting and bitmap tracing the separate images in flash. (i'm using flash 5 and flashmx). is there an easier way?

Sounds like a job for Adobe Streamline.
Save the frames from imageready (can you do a batch save?)
Steamline them to eps's and then import...

That's if they still sell it!

sorry, i hate flash!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

you haven't seen my movie yet, gareth.

and thank you SO much simeon, this looks like it really might help and made this selfish thread worth it.

two weeks pass...
I would just like to express my rage at Flash.

GRRRARRGRGHHH.

That is all. Thank you for your patience.

(Hope you got your animation sorted out ok, Mitch.)

Rebecca (reb), Monday, 2 December 2002 04:30 (twenty-three years ago)

ha thanks Rebecca, i kinda did, but not to my complete satisfaction. and not without spending 5 hours batch processing huge numbers of files to find that flash doesn't have the memory to stick them back into my animation. and not without flash crashing midway through an operation and corrupting an important file. and not without running 4 hours overtime and having angry professors breathing pipe-smoke fumes down my neck. and not without having one of the worst mornings of my life. hope things go better for you.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 2 December 2002 06:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Mitch, sorry it didn't work out. If you ever need to try something like this again, try Wildforms Flix. It does exactly what you want (video>SWF) I didn't know it existed a month ago.

using flashmx, is there a way to import or link to scenes that belong to ANOTHER flash .fla file? or do i now have to do a long and painful "copy-paste" reconstruction of the scene?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 14 June 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

is it feasible you can integrate the scenes from the other movie into one comprehensive movie clip which you can then paste into the new .fla?

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 14 June 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, thanks steve, i was considering that.. it might compromise some of the interactive elements (thought it shouldn't if i handle it carefully), but its also prob the only option i've got time for now..

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 14 June 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

are you using 'tell target' functions much? gawd i stopped using Flash for a while and have forgotten the more complex elements. i even struggled briefly to create a button the other day.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 14 June 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

no i'm not, my actionscript knowledge is less than remedial, the interactivity here is completely limited to animated buttons that link to other simple events

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 14 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

if anyone needs actionScript advice, I do this stuff as my day job yo!

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 14 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

bless you, db! i can see me emailing you very shortly...

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 14 June 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

who would have thought you could still get paid for working with Flash?!

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 14 June 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

db, stevem, anyone: dumb q for flash veterans i guess (i'm self taught, so i've just missed out the bits i didn't need): any easy way to change running speed/framerate of a single symbol, leaving the rest of the anim untouched?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 15 June 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

only way i can think to do that is to manually add/subtract frames to the symbol's own score, click and drag over the amount of frames you want to delete or increase - avoid including keyframes in this - then either add (F5) or delete and this will affect the speed at which that symbol/movie clip moves at.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 15 June 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

thank steve, but that ain't gonna woik: it's an imported swf that i'm wanting to make faster and every frame is a keyframe. but s'alright, i've already redone the swfs at a faster speed. thanks again anyway.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 15 June 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

My experience with Flash is purely all actionScript. I rarely actually use the Timeline.. I do everything programmatically, and load movie clips dynamically.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 15 June 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, smart smart man.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 15 June 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

is there any program out there that simulates onionskinning? or allows you to render yr animations w. onionskinning intact?? eh?

jermaine (jnoble), Thursday, 1 December 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

you can download a demo version of the latest and greatest, use that, then uninstall it.

dali madison's nut (donut), Thursday, 1 December 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

(yeah, but they dont let you install new software on university machines.. anyway, i got a friend to help me out)

jermaine (jnoble), Thursday, 1 December 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)
