Liverpool a goal down in less than 2 minutes - can they get out of it?

This is the "live commentary" thread. Thinking of their weekend defeat, I should say at this point that I really like Middlesbrough, although a friend of mine got menaced outside Ayresome Park many years ago for being a bit of an old hippie (he is) and a Peterborough fan (insert your own jokes).

as soon as Christian Gross said 'i expect Liverpool to beat us and maybe go all the way' you knew it was all over...

blueski, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

3-0 already! Christian Gross looks like IDS.

3-0 to Basle.

utter humiliation, really. I trust Michael Jones is enjoying it ...?

Valencia have just scored. 1-0 to Valencia then.

I support äèíàìî êé¯â (DINAMO KYIV) so please win tomorrow against JUventus. I'm watching Liverpool now, I'm surprised how bad they are.I also suppport Chelsea as they are BLUE too.

Liverpool out! 3-3! Nearly but not quite! Hooray!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Shame. Even the transatlantic support network couldn't save Liverpool, though I did get nice and pissed after the match, and why not. Can't concede 3 goals in a game you need to win, ridiculous stuff. (fear my Ron Managerisms)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 03:53 (twenty-three years ago)

as i said at the start of the match, either team could win...or it could be a draw...

*what about uefa cup cliche?*

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

chris, how many teams do you actually support?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, I'm off to Rotterdam now to see Newcastle triumph against Feyenoord(he says hopefully).

stevo (stevo), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i think the Toon will win and Kiev wont! am i crazy?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I hope and pray not stevem.

stevo (stevo), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Hope you had a good one, stevo.

How are we now going to spend the £10 million earned from getting through to the second round ? I didn't think much of the boy Emerton.

bert, Wednesday, 13 November 2002 23:50 (twenty-three years ago)

We Bristol Rovers fans decided we were concentrating on the league when Exeter (boo Tim H) knocked us out of the oh damn what's it called something to do with a sponsoring lorry company probably, cup competition with just rubbish teams?

Sorry.

Christian Gross does resemble IDS, but comic fans should also check the villain in the classic Fantastic Four 51, "This Man...This Monster!" (a title I enjoyed every time it appeared in a comic).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 November 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still speechless (literally and figuratively). Stevem/blueski you are a soothsayer.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 14 November 2002 08:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Stevo - Congratulations, at least your boys did you proud.

Gareth - Two, but when they play each other it's Chesterfield I support (admittedly this has only happened twice in my supporting lifetime) but I have soft spots for many other teams.

chris (chris), Thursday, 14 November 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

i cant believe it either stevo...i also predicted Liverpool would be the first english side to go out - i only get 1 out of every 4 predictions right on average tho generally

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 14 November 2002 16:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Chris, I've just about got my voice back. My God, what a game. I think I lost a year of my life last night.

stevem - have you ever thought of taking up a new career as betting pundit? I'd certainly recommend you for the position.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 14 November 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i fantasize about it stevo but my reputation has been severly damaged since the World Cup where i confidently expected France and Spain to reach the semis, i was right about Turkey being the dark horse though
