The only kind of surprise that would still be in any way surprising would need to be pretty damn big to register at all amid all the noise, scandal, and fatigues of the past four years. Trump tries to wow his audience every goddamn day with some new tease or outrage. The chance that he left anything big for a last minute blockbuster move is exactly zero.

There's probably quite a bit of submerged scandal yet to emerge about Trump and at least one more could leak out into the open before Election Day. But the same applies. We've been hammered with so many scandalous words and actions that nothing that comes out now could eclipse such shit as paying $750 in taxes, pardoning Joe Arpaio, or calling dead soldiers "suckers". Those dumps now number in the hundreds.

Don't think there can be any other surprise that moves the needle before the election. I worry there will be a November surprise if we discover the polling in WI, MI, and especially PA, was wrong like last time.

Dan S, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 00:14 (four years ago)

A week before, no. The day of--a legitimate, more or less incident-free election, with a declared winner and no push-back--hopefully.

clemenza, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 00:40 (four years ago)

it would be pretty dumb to wait until after 70 million people had already voted to drop an october surprise. then again "it would be pretty dumb" not always a guarantee that trump & co wont do something. but even if they dropped something and it was actually big enough to be damaging, it would be less and less effective as each additional day goes by

I dunno, I kind of feel like the people who have already voted are those whose votes weren't up for grabs anyway.

yeah I think with all this early voting Trump getting COVID-19 pretty much was the October surprise, and a spectacular one at that

yeah at least Clinton's scandal was easy to understand for most laypeople and at least the slogan they came up with for her, offensive and awful as it was, stuck in the public consciousness.

this is as clumsy a smear campaign as they've ever tried to pull off.

https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/cold-stranded-donald-trump-omaha-hospitalized/33499/

Six days from election day, Trump pays to bus his supporters in to a rally in Omaha, where he's trying to claw back NE-02's one electoral vote, but doesn't pay for a round trip, leaving them stranded in below freezing temps and sending dozens to the hospital.

— Contented Independent (@ContentedIndie) October 28, 2020

President Trump took off in Air Force One 1 hr 20 minutes ago, but thousands of his supporters remain stranded on a dark road outside the rally. “We need at least 30 more buses,” an Omaha police officer just said, shaking his head at the chaotic cluster that is unfolding.

— Jeff Zeleny (@jeffzeleny) October 28, 2020

From Trump rally in Omaha Tuesday evening. Elderly people freezing, hypothermic, unable to get back to their cars. Chaotic, disorganized. Buses say credit card to cover rides back from airport were declined. Horrible situation. https://t.co/88oMs8NiIp

@joshtpm Trump’s final rally today, in Omaha, bused in thousands of attendees hours early, from parking lots 3.7 miles away. When the rally ended, no buses arrived. None. It’s a medical emergency and disaster. Go to @omaha_scanner pic.twitter.com/KJUFvQUWZH

Because it's an airport and it's catered entirely around Trump being lazy. The stage gets set up as close to where his plane will land as physically possible, so big boy wet pants doesn't have to shuffle far. In many cases that puts it pretty far from airport parking, where people usually are shuttled to the terminal anyway.
