Yeah, all canadian division is very cool stuff. I think some of the teams are a couple of years away (OTT, MTL), but they're all decent to good.

hard to say...the bure/linden/kirk team was very easy to love when I was a kid, the sedins/luongo era came with a bit more angst (and some incredible moments). Canucks always seem to have one or two transcendent players, and eventual heartbreak of course.

totally legal! totally common! but egregious, and this habs homer will not let the Lightning forget it. given how much the cap constrains (most) top teams, it is literally unfair (although definitely not illegal) for that roster to have played.

the purpose of the salary cap isn't to create parity (which the nhl has more of than any other pro league I follow anyway), it only exists so team owners can avoid paying their employees their actual worth

agree! but better parity's clearly one of the side-effects, and there are clearly a slew of rules surrounding the cap that are meant to maintain that. (the LTIR loophole remains baffling - best i can see it's from the lack of a super easy fix?)

it's not all black and white. there's levels to circumventing the salary cap that are more acceptable than others. the LTIR loophole that the lightning found and abused of is on a bigger scale

this tampa team is one of the best. the players themselves are extremely skilled.
