Drug question

I'm not much of a druggist, though I take some drugs now and again. Anyway, I use certain prescription medicines receationally from time to time. The problem with some of this stuff is that it takes a while to kick in. I was thinking about crushing some pills into powder and taking them through the nose in a perhaps naive belief that the effects would come quicker and stronger. My question is, would they? If you manipulate substances so you can take them in different ways are the effects the same? What are the differences? Is it more dangerous?

That's a great link, but I haven't been able yet to find an answer to the question. Which is, when substances are ingested through different routes, are the results predictable?

The speed in which they are taken up into the bloodstream would vary substantially. I don't know about the potency.

I imagine crushing up and snorting a suppository wouldn't be as effective as following the instructions on the box.

Crushing stuff breaks down the time-release function of certain pills but I think it varies greatly re effects, etc.

I've always operated on the snorting = 2 X oral assumption. It's a reasonable rule of thumb. What's odd is that certain drugs hit you *instantly* when snorted. Sodium pentabarbital in particular - you snort a line, and you're wasted before you can even lean back. Most other things take a few minutes to kick in. If you're not sure something is working, give it at least fifteen minutes to be safe. (Also, if you think something isn't working, stand up. That sometimes brings the effects to your attention.)

So the answer is that you can snort anything you can take orally, but take half the dose? Is that it? And the effects will be roughly the same? Andy seems to dispute this. What do you know, Andy?

It's easier to OD because of the time release thing, so you need to be very careful about dosage. Other than that, I don't know much about it.

What about suppositories?

You have to use a mortar and pestle and crush it very very fine to work. Otherwise you waste it and the stuff just sits in your cavities. Also, snorting only "helps" with stimulants, not narcotics or benzos or so I've heard.

Benzos don't work at all if you snort them. Prsecription pills in general use binding agents which make them difficult to snort - they just clog up your nose. An exception is Temgesic, a mid-range narctoic designed to desolve under the tongue. Snorting these tiny pills gives them an effect more like morphine.
