he says its self indulgent, being a memoir type thing it is, but i am still massively proud of it...who wants to publish it ?

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 04:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe you could put it up online somewhere, for a start? I'd like to read it.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 05:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony, blog the blessed thing! Hoist up your own petard! Or just post the article / memoir!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 13 November 2002 05:40 (twenty-three years ago)

ten months pass...
haha, this just in, e-mail from editor re: Foxgloves - "Also, is Johnny Marr on the record, or not? It seemed like he isn't, but I just want to be sure."

David. (Cozen), Thursday, 25 September 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

"Johnny Marr wrote the article. Didn't it seem like it?"

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 25 September 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Also, is Johnny Marr on the record, or not? It seemed like he isn't, but I just want to be sure."

How many sub editors does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

When you say 'screw in' do you mean to replace the lightbulb or to have sexual congress with the lightbulb? This lacks clarity.
< /old joke>

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

FUCK ALL OF YOU. I AM SUB EDITOR!!!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

however, doing this WELL by day is a real bind when it comes to people do it badly to my writing. it was right in the first place - fuck off out of it!
when training anyone to do the job i always say that a really good sub editor also knows when to leave things alone... not many are good by this yardstick

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

so not fuck all of you at all, really *feeling guilty and really not wanting to have been so rude to anna!*

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

and actually it sounds more like they would be having sexual congress inside the lightbulb...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Phff - subs - no sense of hummor.. *ducks*

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

:-P

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

If I ever interview the Foxgloves that shall be my first question. Rude.

David. (Cozen), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

anna, i take it you mean humour in the above sentence...

< / immense ilx spelling hypocrisy >

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

No sense of hummer.

David. (Cozen), Thursday, 25 September 2003 11:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I was forced to remove "sickening" as an adjective of praise from my review. I tried to explain I saw Rakim saying it on MTV but no no, they had to be indie.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 25 September 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

FUCK ALL OF YOU. I AM SUB EDITOR!!!

But who is Sub Librarian?

alext (alext), Thursday, 25 September 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

is it common for sub-editors to actually have no idea about music whatsoever? like NO IDEA WHATSOEVER? maybe it's meant to help them.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 25 September 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless they work for a music-centered publication, sub-editors may not worry about slight issues like 'musical taste'

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 25 September 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

editing isn't about musical taste, though, even at a music-centered pub.

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 25 September 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, that's kind of what I was wondering in my final sentence. It still creates some problems though.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 26 September 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

My flatmate subbed Reynolds' Observer LFO piece despite having NO IDEA who LFO are. I think he was quite shocked by my response to this disclosure.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 September 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

with all due respect and in the nicest possible way, your friend wants hanging from the nearest rooftop if he was responsible for the subbing of much of the rest of that mag - it was ATROCIOUS!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 26 September 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

editing isn't about musical taste, though, even at a music-centered pub.
I wish you'd been my second editor. My first one freely acknowledged that he had no idea and, y'know, trusted me. The second one (and these were both at the same place--a then-growing weekly) was always trying to throw his own (often questionable) taste into things. It was the cause of much antagonism between us, and what made it easier for me to sell-out (cash-in? hahahahahaha) to the daily, the (this particular one at least) weekly's mortal enemy.
Though what ultimately made me burn the bridge was the weekly's annoying habit of waiting as much as a full year to put cheques in the mail.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 26 September 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the peice in question was shit.
