https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/27/politics/kamala-harris-vice-presidents-residence/index.html

It's unclear why the renovations are taking so long, said one administration official, but it's a situation that has left Harris increasingly and understandably bothered, according to several people who spoke to CNN about her situation.

I don't think there's any mystery here: as everyone suspected, Mike Pence is basically a one-man Led Zeppelin outside the office.

that's a lie. i was deeply suspicious of harris before liking her was cool (because of her anti-sex-worker policies), and it is quite likely i will turn my back on her the second it becomes expedient for me to do so.

but seriously folks, i grew up thinking of kamala the ugandan giant as totally normal and not at all a racist stereotype

it took me several years to stop mispronouncing kamala harris' name

i internalized a _lot_ of racist bullshit growing up and i'm doing the best i can to unlearn that crap

i, uh. i'm feeling some empathy for anybody in america who's Black right now cuz for at least the next couple months, and maybe beyond, they're gonna be hearing the most awful racist bullshit everywhere - like, above and beyond the usual level of awful racist bullshit in America, which isn't exactly low. any way you slice it, that's just gonna fuckin' suck.

i wish it didn't bug me so much that joe biden called kamala harris "kid" yesterday. but given his age he probably calls everyone kid. i can't help it. it bugs me when older people do that. boomers do that to me all the time. even though i am creeping closer to retirement age. on the other hand, it makes an almost-60-year-old woman sound young. so, maybe its okay. still seems disrespectful in public. omg, i am so old-fashioned. i get it, he's folksy and doesn't stand on ceremony. but if she had said "thanks, old-timer" he would have been pissed. it goes both ways is all i'm saying!

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 25 September 2025 11:41 (four weeks ago)

At the time I would say stuff like that because I desperately wanted her to beat Trump and prevent this nightmare we are living through now. But in hindsight it is clear that she failed to make a case for her candidacy. It isn’t easy to cut through the right wing spin machine but the democrats had a responsibility to do that.

treeship 2, Thursday, 25 September 2025 12:01 (four weeks ago)

a (waterface), Thursday, 25 September 2025 13:19 (four weeks ago)

It seems weird to seem that less than a year after her loss she's promoting a book where she shows herself as unable to stand up to Biden (when he demands before the debate that she not distance herself an inch from him.) Like yeah, if you put loyalty to your boss over saving the country from fascism then you were the wrong nominee, however you got there.

Baronet Drowned in Night Frolic (President Keyes), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:25 (four weeks ago)

hungover beet poo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:27 (four weeks ago)

reading my posts as irony is usually the right call

Baronet Drowned in Night Frolic (President Keyes), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:28 (four weeks ago)

i couldn't tell--no offense meant!

and yes loyalty to your boss over your country is the wrong call. i think she did the best she could with the hand she was dealt but it's not like the Democrats have a huge bench of potential politicans to get the job done

a (waterface), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:32 (four weeks ago)

she was probably overly cautious, but it's also hard for me to blame her too much given the situation and the stakes. she had a difficult needle to thread within a short timeline. i'm also not convinced that a more forceful distancing from biden would have been enough to put her over. voters wanted more of a change than transferring power to the sitting vp.

To us.

hungover beet poo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:55 (four weeks ago)

It was apparent since her 2020 run that Kamala was an extremely awkward candidate with some baggage of her own making (policing).

Yes, the situation for Democrats was tough, but in every case in which she could have distanced herself from the Democratic establishment deeply unpopular even with Democrats (an establishment in which she was the #2 figure), she moved closer to the center/establishment as the election approached.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:56 (four weeks ago)

hungover beet poo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 25 September 2025 14:59 (four weeks ago)

given the circumstances of Biden stepping down, I don't know who would have done better than Harris. as the VP, she immediately had legitimacy as a successor to Biden, and let's remember that a lot of people were genuinely excited by her and her personal narrative. hard for me to imagine Gretchen Whitmer or Gavin Newsom or whoever would've gotten it done.

jaymc, Thursday, 25 September 2025 15:00 (four weeks ago)

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Thursday, 25 September 2025 15:01 (four weeks ago)

It's true that in the circumstances Harris was the only real option. Which is why I blame Biden and his family for the loss a lot more than Kamala.

Baronet Drowned in Night Frolic (President Keyes), Thursday, 25 September 2025 15:10 (four weeks ago)

Biden deciding to run in 2024 sent a message, intended or not, that Harris wasn't ready to take his place, and then, after being forced to step down, his continued butthurt grumbling did her no favors.
