Neither sticking with Biden or switching to Harris at the last minute were good choices, and neither were any other choices besides those two. The idea that there was a right choice in that predicament I don't think works. In hindsight and also in foresight that predicament should never have arisen

At the time I would say stuff like that because I desperately wanted her to beat Trump and prevent this nightmare we are living through now. But in hindsight it is clear that she failed to make a case for her candidacy. It isn’t easy to cut through the right wing spin machine but the democrats had a responsibility to do that.

I don’t lay most of the blame on her, she was given an opportunity but it was a real shit sandwich and she had a part in making it. The entire Democratic machine that enabled Biden to run again and his Gaza bullshit, just fuck all of them and Harris too.

she was probably overly cautious, but it's also hard for me to blame her too much given the situation and the stakes. she had a difficult needle to thread within a short timeline. i'm also not convinced that a more forceful distancing from biden would have been enough to put her over. voters wanted more of a change than transferring power to the sitting vp.

Yes, the situation for Democrats was tough, but in every case in which she could have distanced herself from the Democratic establishment deeply unpopular even with Democrats (an establishment in which she was the #2 figure), she moved closer to the center/establishment as the election approached.

given the circumstances of Biden stepping down, I don't know who would have done better than Harris. as the VP, she immediately had legitimacy as a successor to Biden, and let's remember that a lot of people were genuinely excited by her and her personal narrative. hard for me to imagine Gretchen Whitmer or Gavin Newsom or whoever would've gotten it done.

It's true that in the circumstances Harris was the only real option. Which is why I blame Biden and his family for the loss a lot more than Kamala.

Biden deciding to run in 2024 sent a message, intended or not, that Harris wasn't ready to take his place, and then, after being forced to step down, his continued butthurt grumbling did her no favors.
