I was at the bar tonight, first time I was allowed to drink indoors in 12 months. Stocks are very low, I've noticed. One brand of gin, one bourbon, etc. I almost ordered a Budweiser tonight, it's a new world.

Yeah a buy back is the bartender giving you one on the house, it doesn't cost anything.

I keep a tab going and always tip 25% at my local. I never get buy backs there, or anywhere else, but have had my whole bill comped on two occasions (my birthday and the first time we went there after my wife and I got married)

I kind of hate my local - don't like the decor, don't like the vibe (70s rock, metal, and americana) and the clientele that it attracts (one regular wears a leather waistcoat with nothing underneath and a cowboy hat), it's too hot in the summer but I like the staff, it's a neighborhood spot in contrast to the many breweries in the area, and it's 2 blocks away

I've only given a handful of buybacks since starting my bartender job. I would give more except this town full of shitty tippers don't deserve it.

One bartender I used to be regular with always, without fail, would buy the third drink. No idea now he kept track, the place was always hopping. I would tip between 2 and 5 bucks for that one. I just appreciated his effort. Otherwise wld tip a buck a beer for what was a 4 or 5 dollar beer at the Toronado back then.

I got a buyback today from a well known Mpls bartender and musician and he said an appropriate tip was the cost of the drink 👀

When I get a drink on the house, I increase the total tip by what I would have tipped for the drink, had I bought it. Not the full cost of the drink, that's nuts.

I have heard the verb "house," as in "she housed our drinks." Or some form of "on the house" or "on me": "that one's on me"; "these are on the house."

After months of being a regular (and playing loads and loads of music) at my local bar, I finally got a drink on the house.

As a matter of principle I probably tipped as much as, or possibly more than, the drink's price (because of course)

At another place that I play regularly (a distillery), I ordered a bottle of their house gin to take home. But I struggled slightly with how much to tip on the value of the (rather expensive) bottle.

Like, I don't even blink at tipping $7 for a free cocktail. But I am iffy on how much to tip someone who has just, like, handed me a $45 bottle of lemon verbena gin. No matter how tasty it is. (For the record, it is extremely tasty.)
