Firemen came off their picket lines to save a man from the blaze, otherwise left the soldiers to it.

Really bizarre pictures of factory roof with smoke billowing out and fireworks darting through.

Don't think town's been shut off. I was in Oldham Street about 4-ish this afternoon and didn't hear anything, although thinking about it there were a few "nee-nahs" and blue lights as I was leaving.

What fucking poor timing.

Apparently the number of hoax calls has gone *up* since the strike started, and on the news last night there were pictures of a gang of charvers who'd deliberately set a car on fire and were just standing around laughing at the army stand-in firemen for not being able to get the old and knackered equipment working for half an hour. It's times like this (and, well, most other times) I could really persuade myself to hate people. Or maybe I'm just having one of those no sense of humour days there's a thread about. Sigh.

I couldn't hear/see anything from where I was yesterday. It was outside the city centre ring road, so not actually that near the middle.
