I read the first five chapters of this today at the library. Never had the slightest desire to read it before, but I think I've been hooked. I also glanced at the Nabokov commentary - very entertaining! ("That crude and cruel old book...")

(About the spelling - it's the Burton Raffel translation. I tried reading an older one once, didn't make it very far.)

Yeah, it's a wonderful book, though the second volume (his sequel, ten years on, following a number of unofficial sequels) isn't quite as wonderful.
