What's been your biggest disappointment of the week?

Last night, looking through Heat's TV listings, I see that this week's Serious BBC Documentary Program Horizon is about how ships mysteriously disappearing at sea could all be explained by monsters. Halfway through the program, waiting for the monster theorising and artist's impressions to begin, I look again and it actually says "monster waves". WAAAH!

(though I was gratified to learn that Captain Birdeye has found gainful employment at the helm of the QEII, and wasn't just axed in a misguided rebranding exercise hurrah)

A non-linear monster AAAAARRRRRRGGH!

Graham (graham), Friday, 15 November 2002 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, Graham, you mean it took you half the programme to figure out that it wasn't about monsters?

That was actually Uncle Albert from Only Fools & Horses.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 15 November 2002 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Well they did do the docco cliffhanger "But then something happenned, something big, that couldn't be explained by normal science..."

Quantum Physics <<<<< SEA MONSTERS

grrr that programme kept promising to explain how the FREAK WAVES weren't just ordinary sinewaves, but it never said what the mathematical formula was...

i was talking to talitha on the phone for the first 20 minutes: so i missed stuff — was the clip of film of the New Year Wave running down the oil rig digitalk or a reconstruction? It was very extremely scary even if it was faked.

There's another Fortean Ocean phenom they didn't mention, which is like single pillars of water of great height, w. little waterspouts dnaxcing on top

mark s (mark s), Friday, 15 November 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

They didn't say, it looked real, but they had some pretty good digi stuff elswewhere in the show.

What mark, didn't you get it from the out of focus closeups?

The fact that my two housemates seem to have declared war on each other is not helping my week.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 November 2002 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 15 November 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Arg...the new Don Hertzfeldt (Billy's Balloon, Lily and Jim) animated film, Rejected, was going to make its TV debut a little while ago on the Cartoon Network. I've been waiting months for this. Then, even though it's on the TV Guide network listing...nope. Like the geek I am, I check his website (http://www.bitterfilms.com) and find out that it was pulled at the last minute, because of sponsor concerns over the phrase "sweet Jesus" used in the film. WTF?! Good lord, people. What's next on the chopping block, "Goodness gracious"??

I've been home sick for two days, and I ran out of milk for my coffee this morning. :(

Now I'm debating between stumbling over to the coffee shop across the street for a latte, or opening a can of evaporated milk & using that. Only in Seattle would people who have the flu still be drinking 2 cups of morning coffee....

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

my birthday.
and I have made little progress in finding a new job. i don;t understand. i can write marxist critiques of italian futurist painting but i can;t seem to find a job. that is due not only to my lack of motivation, but also the fact that one must jump through so many hoops just to make $5 an hour to xerox all day.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 15 November 2002 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 15 November 2002 22:49 (twenty-three years ago)

sleeplessness --> irritability --> everything makes me want to burst into tears --> everything is a disappointment.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 15 November 2002 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 15 November 2002 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I tuned in to the Discovery Channel to a program entitled "How to Survive" or some such, and instead of providing me with useful common sense information about how to mollify an abusive boss or avoid drunken drivers, it spent nearly the whole of the hour telling lurid stories about people who had been randomly struck by lightning or gnawed on by ursine creatures. What a disappointment!

Aimless, Saturday, 16 November 2002 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)
