the other servers at the restaurant I worked at in my 20s used to call me "Satan" to each other. when I first got promoted at my current place in 2006, people lobbied against it.

after going on Effexor, a lot of that went away.

Bracketing my ilx behavior, I find it much more satisfying to be polite to people who are annoying me than to be rude. There’s no rudeness as cutting as being technically polite.

I am really really quiet which can be a form of rudeness perhaps. in that I don't exchange friendly chit chat with co workers eg would never ask how their weekends were or how they were doing etc also keep my replies to any conversation they attempt with me as short as possible without tipping into rudeness hopefully. more distant and stand-off-ish than rude.

online i try not to be excessively rude but cross the line some times

irl i am occasionally rude to strangers because chuds try my mfing patience but i make a huge effort to not shit where i eat, i am as polite as possible to friends and acquaintances.

I grew up on the mean streets of Deighton in the 70's and I wasn't tough enough for the environment we were living in and probably a borderline autist. My mum could see there was a problem and once dragged me out of the house and back to the scene of the crime and ordered me to throw a punch at some big thug kid who had just beaten the shit out of me. I think that humiliating moment was when a part of my brain got hard-wired to: never be too nice again!

I think "rude" is a matter of perception. I try to set firm and strong boundaries and some people may interpret that as rudeness, but the intent is firm assertiveness rather than abrasiveness.
