I was going to make a lazy zing by asking if Peacock had the funny version of Mr. Mayor, but that actually turns out to be the case -- it's just that it's called Girls5eva. It has the same madcap, joke-dense rhythm of 30R and Kimmy Schmidt, its songs are genuinely funny, and I love its pastiched versions of prestige TV.

Ok the Dolly Parton episode is hilarious and as good as any 30 Rock, the song is my favorite so far, plus more Dennis Duffy.

A podcast mentioned that Wickie is basically Jenna Maroney and now I desperately want a Jenna cameo on this show.

Finished! The middle episodes are the peak in terms of lols, but it never drags down too much, and some of the music has grown on me. (I wasn't sure before, but apparently all the leads sing their own vocals.)

I like this, quite a lot, especially Pell and Bareilles. Renée Elise Goldsberry is... maybe a little stiff, but has a weirdly winning chemistry with Jonathan Winters, of all people. I hope they retool Phillips's character in the second season though - she's great, but I'm not sure the shallow dingbat role really plays to her depths/strengths.

Huh, new season (second was bad, didn't think it'd get a third) and it's moved to Netflix.

I just discovered this on Netflix and as a big fan of 30 Rock and Josie and the Pussycats, I'm enjoying the hell out of it!

kind of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend vibes too.

I only know Sara Bareilles from the cover of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road that I put on every time YouTube suggests it but she really pulls this show together

Love this show. I really didn't notice any drop in quality after the first season, it's way better than I expected. Keeping the 30 Rock joke machine alive.

Only just started the first season so not reading most of the thread, but damn I wish someone would have tipped me off to the 30 Rock vibe here, I absolutely would have checked this out sooner!

Not a big fan – just not nearly as funny as 30 Rock to me, never stopped feeling like Wickie is just getting Jenna's lines, Dawn getting Liz's, Paul getting Tracy's – but worth watching for anyone who has cycled through 30 Rock enough. All it's similarities w/ 30 Rock make it better than most current sitcoms, though; I get the sense that Girls5eva might hit better thematically than 30 Rock for some people. 30 Rock + Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is pretty accurate.

I do love every time I hear the opening and it gets to "What are you waiting five?" line at the end – I know it's coming but it still gets a little laugh every time!

I love that it totally nails early 2000s pop culture in a way that is weirdly specific yet clearly universal

very belatedly discovered this in spring and burned through all the episodes in weeks. standard v high throughout and some of the jokes genuinely left us aching with laughter - running joke about invisible transparent piano, "Which Muppet is that?", "Your bulges... they don't make sense!". Is the show dead? Will there be a S04??

Any time I'm reminded of this show it makes me happy

I've enjoyed all the other 30 Rock-esque shows, even Mr. Mayor, but this was great! My only complaint is the idea that you can call six 25-minute episodes a season nowadays (in the UK, six episodes would be called a SERIES not a season - find the lie Dawn)
