The rest of you get voting. Anthony - note the token country song just for you!

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 16 November 2002 12:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i listened to more pop singles than anything else this year! i can't burn my 02 'best of' cd cos i can't pare it down to 15 or so tracks! but i count only 7 great songs on this ballot! how did this happen?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 16 November 2002 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

wait maybe 8..

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 16 November 2002 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the Las Ketchup song the original version or the one with English lyrics? Cos those two would get radically diferent ratings from me...

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 16 November 2002 12:52 (twenty-three years ago)

... and from me too. I will make clear in my comments that I am voting for the Spanish version.

Jeff W, Saturday, 16 November 2002 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

seriously, i said this on ilm but this may be the least songs ever known by my on a focus group. of course it also contains a few of my absolute faves of the year, so i'm not complaining...

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 16 November 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i mean, 16 songs!! what's up with that?!

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 16 November 2002 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

[having now read the list]

seems pretty OTM to me - some I like, some I don't, some I've never heard. Covers a nice variety of styles and tastes. The usual, then.

Jeff W, Saturday, 16 November 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

whens the due date and also i love you.

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to play my joker 100% against Missy Elliot, not because I dislike the song - quite the opposite - but because I hate the predictability of these focus groups. Not that it's going to help OR that I will remember to vote but the thought is there.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 16 November 2002 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I just got back from the live focus group! It was the Spanish version of Las Ketchup. It was fun! Thanks for organising it Tom et al!!!

From my voting it was deemed that I am evil.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 16 November 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Therefore, Jel is a hero. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 22:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel the OUTSIDER. a lot of fun. it was great.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 16 November 2002 22:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Mitch is it because each focus group covers half the year?

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 17 November 2002 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, Missy didn't win the live Focus Group voting.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 17 November 2002 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

*evil laughter*

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 17 November 2002 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I still have The Logical Song stuck in my head. Yay for stadium house!

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 17 November 2002 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

hey martin stop giving important secret info away!! we have a global economy to clandestinely subvert to our own eeevil ends!!

Dawnie Lizard (mark s), Sunday, 17 November 2002 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I was just trying to discourage Ally from her unfair bias against the great Missy. I will say no more about scores (though the 15-20 of us there know, obv).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 17 November 2002 19:34 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, Tom shoulda made us take a vow of secrecy. But seeing as the 12ft lizards are now involved, I'm keeping quiet.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 17 November 2002 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

yes tom that may well be it except for the bit where i heard all my favourite singles in the last part of the year

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Sunday, 17 November 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I know I've said this before, but Nelly, boi, you are going DOWN!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 17 November 2002 20:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Expect massive Caps Lock abuse for the Scooter track (UNS! UNS! UNS!)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 18 November 2002 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I had mine written yesterday but my computer crashed, I was wondering if I could use my joker on the 0 for scooter and somehow make it get less than zero though sadly the laws of mathematics prevent this.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 November 2002 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Hyper hyper.

No more hints as to what did or didn't do well, please.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 18 November 2002 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

...instead tell us who was there, what you were wearing, how drunk you got etc.

Jeff W (Jeff W), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

1) Many people
2) The Angelica T-Shirt
3) I tried to persuade Alix that eloping with me against her will was a good idea.

Graham (graham), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

1. THE MOB
2. A GOTH TOP hem hem (ok it was from Matalan), a goth skirt, some value of HOSE and the goth look then gets sadly ruined with my falling apart velcro converse. Oh well.
3. Weeping (although I did get a boy kneeling for me too COR EH!).

Sarah (starry), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I was there. dressed as pretty much the same as when you met me jeff (black trousers, black shoes, etc). didn't get drunk as i drank coke but many did and there were was a lot of 'good' singing, and more of it as the afternoon went on. Tom was nearly stripping during the nelly track (the horror! the horror!!!).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

How do you play your joker on zero, anyway?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

(Σx1n)/n

becomes:

(Σx1n-1+2xn)/(n+1)

Graham (graham), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

But Xn is zero anyway, so the sigma is the same, but the divider is incremented by one.

Jeans and t-shirt (hooray for weekend meets when I have not been at work in my suit). I didn't get at all drunk, as I left at half six to meet my girlfriend.

Bizarrely, I had an invite to another planned event in the same pub that evening! A pal's birthday, but my new girlfriend took priority. Only one of that party had arrived as I left, so it didn't get too awkward.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, two people came in looking for a party!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

four weeks pass...
agh! I did my ballot at the weekend then tried to e-mail it from UK to Brussels so i could tidy it up but the message hasn't arrived. I'm gonna have to re-do it.* Does the laptop "incident" referred to on NYLPM mean I still have a bit of time? Heh, I managed to hear a fair few more of the songs at the weekend by "previewing" to my nephew's Christmas present!

(*alternatively, does anyone know how to convert a Lotus WordPro document into either Microsoft Word or plain taxt without it generating pages of garbage in the process?)

Jeff W, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom, do you remember what order the songs were played in, cos that what help me figure out what I thought at the time.

No, I did take notes, I'm just having trouble filling in the gaps.

(thankyou v.v.much Liz)

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

The laptop incident means a couple of days grace yeah Jeff. I'm going to be working on it between christmas and new year, actually. This means that any ballots I get before Christmas will 99% certainly go in.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

call me stoopid but does "the laptop incident" mean i have to resubmit?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 16:57 (twenty-three years ago)

No - "the laptop incident" was me losing my laptop which had the spreadsheet with all the votes tallied up on - nothing to do with people's original emails. And I've got the laptop back now anyway.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hooray! (on both counts)

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:02 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks, Tom

Jeff W, Tuesday, 17 December 2002 17:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I sent mine in on time, you can faint now Jeff.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 17 December 2002 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
How long does this thing take? Are the results up? If so, where can I see them? Why aren't there any links to these "Focus Groups" on the main page?

Evan (Evan), Sunday, 9 March 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

There are links in the archive page.

They seem to take longer each time which is why lots of people will be working on the next one.
