i rented this movie probably 10-15 times when i was a teenager. it was funny, made nerds seem cool, and was rated pg-13 (i was not allowed to rent r-rated movies). i loved it. haven't thought about it in years. worth a rewatch?

i loved how you didn't know what kind of movie it was until halfway through, and then it became the kind of movie you thought it was going to be originally, but with higher stakes. the article above explains it really well.

a tangent, but contact (1997) starring jodie foster had a similar feeling, iirc.
