What do you want from work?

Aside from paying.

(Context: question asked because I'm working harder than ever but feeling like I'm missing something).

I want to feel that my work has meaning, and that I’m learning new skills - ascending.

i don't want anything from work, the less the better. other than paying of course.

To not do it.

I want to do more of one thing (which pays well) and less of another thing (which pays less well), but I'm much better known (to the extent that I am known at all) for Thing B, so opportunities to do that are much more plentiful.

I would like to be paid for the stuff I love doing. it isn't an impossible dream but it also isn't happening any time soon.

So ... I like my job ... but feel like I'm working harder and harder, partly related to the pandemic. And I sort of feel like I want something that acknowledges that but not necessarily money, though that would be nice.

to be left alone

to actually feel like i have some influence over the things i think are important.

i think this thread can be divided into two categories of respondents: care, don't care

I'm not ambitious. I just need to spend 40 hrs a week in a place so I can afford rent and entertainment, and while I'm there I would like to get on with people around me, feel the work I'm doing is helping other people somehow, and not feel I have to fight or struggle to achieve the goals of what I need to do.

As much money as possible with as little responsibility as possible. Is that so wrong?

Not having to do more than four or five hours of real work per day.

I teach and I love the moment-to-moment work in the classroom but the work takes so much from me, I don't have much me for anything else. I'd like to find a way to balance that a bit better. And have more money but that ain't going to happen.
